The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is one of the United Nations Agencies working in Jordan and is the main convener of sustainable development. Since its founding, UNDP has worked to build institutions, increase resilience, empower nations, and contribute to major development gains. UNDP Jordan Country Office Areas of interventions:

UNDP Jordan Country Office has several key areas of work. Each area plays an important role in achieving the UNDP Sustainable Development Goals for Jordan.

 

  • Inclusive Participation: The pillar covers systemic reform, anti-corruption efforts, supporting the electoral cycle, access to justice, regulations regarding property taxes, disaster risk reduction, and promoting youth participation.

 

  • Community Security & Social Cohesion: This pillar includes social cohesion. The pillar ?also connected with livelihoods, local economic developments, and municipal support.

          "Rule of Law: this component covers access to justice and legal aid interventions, with a focus on gender and monitoring SDG 16".

     Two further topics covered in this Pillar are Preventing Violent Extremism, with a focus on civil society capacity building and policy support,       and    the Rule of Law, which covers access to justice and legal aid interventions, with a focus on gender and monitoring SDG 16.

  • Inclusive Growth & Sustainable Livelihoods: ?These projects focus on inclusive development empowerment; poverty alleviation, youth empowerment, youth and women income generation, and mitigating the impact of the Syrian crisis on vulnerable host communities.

 

  • Environment Sustainability, DRR, & Climate Change: The pillar sponsors projects that support the country`s sustainable management of natural resources, protects it environment and meets its international commitments. The ongoing projects contribute to combat climate change, biodiversity conservation, waste management, promoting innovative solutions to water management, sustainable urbanization and resource efficiency and maintaining Jordan’s adherence to reporting on environmental regulations.

 

  • Development Impact Policy & Planning: The Development Impact Policy and Planning (DIPP) pillar aims to facilitate the achievement of sustainable development in Jordan by undertaking appropriate policy and programmatic interventions for integrating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and principles in the national development planning frameworks with a specific focus on crisis response. Special emphasis is given to creating an enabling environment for an all-inclusive engagement and participation of all Jordanians in a coherent institutional framework for the implementation of the Agenda 2030 that is gender-sensitive in its nature and focuses on youth and women empowerment and participation.

 

  • The Partnership, Resource Mobilization and Communication: UNDP Jordan Communications team has the mandate of exploring, among other things, the use of communications and social media to increase the effectiveness of programming, opening up the organization to external views and input and engaging experts in the regional and global dialogue on key development challenges.

The Partnership, Resource Mobilization and Communication intern works closely with Senior Partnership Advisor to support UNDP Jordan with managing and enhancing partnerships; advises in the allocation of regarding resources and assists with national strategies for corporate social responsibility. The core partners are private sector, government, international financial institutions and traditional donors. The partnerships, resource mobilization and communication intern provide a range of support, as it requires producing a range of communications and knowledge materials produced often using information materials provided by programme team.

 

  • Operations Unit: The Operations Section is the backbone of the office. The Section is split into several sub-units:

 

  • The Financial Resources Management Unit (FRMU)

FRMU ensures to provide its internal as well as its external clients including other UN agencies with quality and timely services. FRMU ensures effective implementation of the cost recovery policy, Monitors Extra Budgetary income statements and forecast monthly the status of the Extra Budgetary resources and Provides management with periodic reports reflecting the office financial position & making sure to alert management of any deviation

 

  • Human Resources

responsible of executing the full range of CO HR services ensuring their transparency and integrity. It is responsible of administering and implementing HR strategies and policies, administering of human resources, managing Performance and career development, conducting of UN-related survey and facilitating of knowledge building and knowledge sharing. HR impact on the overall efficient execution of CO HR services and consequently, result in the success of the Operations Unit. Accurate analysis and presentation of financial information enhances UNDP credibility in HR management. The information provided facilitates decision making of the management.

 

  • General Services

Our general services unit is responsible for the smooth running of the UNDP-Jordan premises that involves management and maintenance of the office infrastructure, vehicles, equipment and other assets. Other responsibilities include procurement of goods and services, travel management, Information Technology, administrative and logistical support to UNDP projects and to some UN agencies, including arranging conferences and workshops. The unit also supports the international staff in obtaining official paperwork for their working and living in Jordan (eg: valid residency permits, driving licenses, ID cards, customs clearance).

 

  • Procurement

The UNDP Jordan Procurement Unit aims to provide timely and as well as quality services, effective and efficient delivery. Apart from locally negotiated contracts and long-term agreements, the Country Office has access to contracts that have been signed at the corporate level.

The Procurement Unit manage goods and services by liaising with project personnel on specifications, delivery/payment terms and funds availability for procurement planning; identifying the appropriate procurement methods, submitting procurement information and requests to Asset and Procurement Committee (CAP), Advisory Committee on Procurement /internal UNDP procurement committees; ensuring access to favorable prices, reliable delivery terms, insurance, impartial advice and recognition of environmental and safety considerations.?

 

 

Devoirs et responsabilités

Internship-specific duties and responsibilities vary per team but may fall under the following categories:

  • Conduct substantive research and analysis, including: gathering and review of specialist reports and indices; monitoring and tracking of political and thematic developments, including news updates; preparation of briefings and concept notes;
  • Support and contribute to the programme reports and M&E, including: note-taking of key meetings. data collection and analysis; archiving; drafting, editing and fact-checking reports; development of infographics; drafting and publication of resource materials;
  • Support and contribute to engagement with key partners (Parliament, Government, Ministries, Governorates and municipalities, civil society, Independent commissions, UN agencies, donors, etc.) including: regular meetings with partners; mapping of partner activities; and participation in external events; working on proposals developments and researching new financing streams; support team integration and coordination;
  • Assist in to the developing and implementing of new and/or existing programmes and projects;
  • Providing a range of services to support the effective and efficient implementation of the communication projects in Jordan and support in the design of visual materials like posters, roll-ups and greeting cards;
  • Participate in organizing external events; working on proposals developments and researching new financing streams; support team integration and coordination;
  • Provide assistance to organize and implement seminars, workshops and/or training activities on at the national, regional level, as required;
  • Assist in other related duties as required;

Compétences

  • Strong academic background in relevant fields;
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in Arabic and English are required; Ability to write clearly and concisely;
  • Initiative, sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members of different national and cultural backgrounds;
  • Good command of information and communication technology.

Qualifications et expériences requises

Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

  1. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or

equivalent, or higher);

  1. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent);
  2. Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.
