With the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at its core, and in response to the General Assembly resolution 71/243 on the quadrennial comprehensive policy review of operational activities for development of the United Nations system, the UN Secretary General’s report (December 2017) “Repositioning the United Nations development system to deliver on the 2030 Agenda: our promise for dignity, prosperity and peace on a healthy planet” puts forward a comprehensive proposal on further improvements to the resident coordinator system to ensure more coherent, accountable and effective support for the 2030 Agenda. This was further reinforced by General Assembly resolution 72/729 of 1 June 2018, which gave the Secretary-General the mandate to implement the repositioning.  A reinvigorated resident coordinator system is at the centre of a repositioned United Nations development system. The core capacity of the new generation of Resident Coordinator Offices will include expertise in coordination and strategic planning, economics, tailored policy support, results monitoring and evaluation, and strategic partnerships, plus a robust standing communications capacity within the United Nations country team. 

 

The present internship opportunity is conceived to provide an exciting learning opportunity in this new generation of Resident Coordinator Office, with the new skillset and competencies required to deliver on the 2030 Agenda.

 

Internship Profile:

By the end of the internship, the intern is expected to have developed clear understanding of the project objectives, enhance practical experience, obtain practical skills and knowledge for further use in his/her research work, deepen knowledge and understanding of the UN’s goals, principles and activities in Uzbekistan as well as Agenda 2030, and provide support and assistance in preparing specific deliverables as outlined below.

Under the overall supervision of the Head of the Resident Coordinator Office and/or RCO Coordination Analyst:

  • Discuss, review, agree and fulfill learning objectives for the internship;
  • Support the RC Office with analysis and research linked to the launch of the Common Country Assessment in Uzbekistan;
  • Research and support implementation of a resource mobilization strategy for joint UN initiatives in Uzbekistan, with a particular focus on engaging non-traditional donors and the business community;
  • Support in providing analysis for and support implementation of UN in Uzbekistan’s private sector outreach efforts;
  • Prepare periodic reports on the results of the learning and performed activities (once a month);
  • Undertake other activities as required in the area of internship research.

Qualifications et expériences requises

Education field:  public / business administration, public policy, development studies, international relations, economics, social studies, environment, public administration, employment, social inclusion, information and communication technology, and any other related field. 

 

Applicants to the internship must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

  • Have graduated from university degree programme (Bachelor’s level or equivalent) and if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation; or
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme(minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
  • Be enrolled in master’s programme or higher;

 

Language requirements:

  • Fluency in spoken and written English

Kindly note that selected intern will be required the following:

  • a Medical Certificate of Good Health from a recognized physician. If the intern is expected to travel outside the country of their residence, the physician must indicate whether he/she is fit to travel and   has had the required inoculations for the country or countries to which the intern is to travel; (Can be obtained from a Family Center (State one), free of charge)
  • proof of medical insurance valid for the location(s) in which the internship will be carried out for duration of contract;

Financial Issues:
 

Internships within the UN system are unpaid and subject to conditions the applicant must get familiar with prior to signing his/her internship agreement.

The costs associated with the internship must be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his or her own arrangements for travel, accommodation etc.

UNDP only accepts interns for a minimum of 6 weeks and a maximum of 6 months.
UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship. Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.
It is important to note that interns are responsible to arrange for their own visa and residence documents and need to plan for these well in advance.
