The Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy (BERA) leads and supports the organization in cultivating, building and nurturing strategic relationships and alliances that are essential for advancing and successfully achieving the mission of UNDP. Within BERA, the Communications Group leads and manages external communications through strategy, media, digital communications, marketing, branding and global storytelling.

Under the supervision of the Manager of Marketing and Outreach Team, the Senior Creative Lead / Marketing Copywriter will support UNDP's marketing initiatives to reach and engage key audiences. The selected candidate will be responsible for developing and expanding digital marketing campaigns to increase brand awareness, raise funds and engage new audiences through existing and new digital platforms. The Senior Creative Lead / Marketing Copywriter will oversee the Marketing Team’s creative projects from conception to final production, working in partnership with and guiding the work of designers, and collaborating with other teams on corporate priorities and campaigns.

The Senior Creative Lead / Marketing Copywriter will collaborate other creatives across the Communications Group to create content web aligned with search engine marketing best practices—increasing traffic to our digital platforms—and develop creative assets for digital campaigns, including headlines and body copy.

The selected candidate will also be involved in the creative aspects related to UNDP’s e-commerce platform by proposing initiatives to increase sales, identifying and proposing new and innovative products, among other tasks related to day-to-day operations. S/he should be able to work with limited resources by suggesting innovative approaches and ideas to maximize reach, engagement, and conversion metrics of campaigns both in owned and paid media.

The Senior Creative Lead / Marketing Copywriter will be part of the Marketing and Outreach team, working in close collaboration with the Online and Digital, Fundraising and Engagement and Media and Advocacy teams in the Communications Group, within BERA.

Duties and Responsibilities

1) Conceptualize, develop and expand digital marketing campaigns for awareness initiatives

- Create digital campaigns, from concept to execution and deployment;

- Propose a digital media mix to increase reach of UNDP’s message and audience engagement;

- Employ search engine marketing tactics (SEO and paid) to grow traffic and conversions;

- Maximize return on investment on promoted content.

2) Lead the production of campaigns and creative assets for UNDP global communications

- Represent the team and liaise with internal clients—from executive-level staff to technical specialists;

- Ideate and write creative headlines and body copy for digital campaigns;

- Ideate and write copy for products such as infographics, lists, emails, among others;

- Write scripts for videos and animations;

- Work closely with in-house designers, external consultants, and other teams to ensure all creative assets are refreshed frequently and are as relevant and impactful as possible;

- Ensure that creatives are aligned with visual and editorial standards.

3) Promote growth of UNDP’s e-commerce platform

- Create campaigns to increase sales of UNDP/SDGs products, raising awareness for UNDP and SDGs;

- Write creative copy for the e-commerce website using the latest SEO strategies;

- Identify and propose new products to increase sales of branded products.

4) Oversee the work of the creative marketing team

- Collaborate with designers and oversee their work, ensuring final product is delivered on time and adheres to the highest standards of quality;

- Lead and guide the Marketing Team in the absence of the team manager.

Expected Deliverables (January 1 – December 31, 2020)

  • Oversee the creative output of the team from the concepting stage to final production
  • Act as focal point for select corporate products, liaising with internal clients in the Executive Office (ExO) and other Bureaux
  • Conceptualize and lead the development of creative collaterals for flagship events
  • Write search optimized web pages for UNDP Shop
  • Write advertising campaigns for UNDP and UNDP Shop
  • Conceptualize and lead the creative development of UNDP’s 2019 Annual Report
  • Create social media posts for SDG campaigns

Institutional Arrangement

The Consultant will report to the Manager of Marketing and Outreach Team and his/her performance will be assessed against deliverables. The Consultant will also interact with the Media and Advocacy, Online and Digital and Fundraising and Engagement teams, as well as other teams within UNDP as needed.  The Manager of the Marketing and Outreach Team to whom the Consultant is accountable will hold inception, mid-term and conclusion meetings to assess the quality of the deliverables and make necessary adjustments to ensure expected outputs and deliverables are met.

Duty Station:

The consultant is expected to work in UNDP Headquarters located in New York, USA.  No travel is envisaged for this assignment. Office space and a laptop computer will be provided.

Payment:

A daily rate based on an all-inclusive daily fee. All-inclusive implies that all costs incurred by the Consultant are factored into the final amount submitted in the proposal.  Payments will be made upon submission of a certificate of payment request, at a schedule agreed based on deliverables indicating outputs achieved and days worked to be verified and cleared for payment by the supervisor.

UNDP reserves the right to rescind this agreement due to unsatisfactory performance by the contractor.

Qualifications et expériences requises

Education: First degree diploma in Copywriting, Art Direction, Marketing Communications, or related discipline; or at least 15 years of experience in the field

Experience: 

  • A minimum of 15 years of proven experience conceptualizing and executing marketing communications campaign;
  • Ability to write creative copy and translate ideas into advertising products, demonstrated in digital portfolio;
  • Experience optimizing content for search engine marketing required;
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in e-commerce and direct marketing;
  • Ability to produce high quality products under tight deadlines;
  • Previous work experience within the UN System or similar organization is considered an asset
  • Familiarity with the Sustainable Development Goals;

Other Skills:

  • Familiarity with digital and social media platforms;
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud; especially InDesign and Acrobat.

Language:

  • Exceptional mastery of written and spoken English. Working knowledge of other languages will be considered an asset

EVALUATION CRITERIA

The Evaluation panel will conduct a cumulative analysis in selecting the best candidate(s) weighted on the basis of 70% for technical expertise and 30% for the financial proposal.

Individual consultants will be evaluated using the Cumulative Analysis methodology.

When using this weighted scoring method, the award of the contract should be made to the individual consultant(s) whose offer has been evaluated and determined as:

  • Responsive/compliant/acceptable, and having received the highest score out of a pre-determined set of weighted technical and financial criteria specific to the solicitation;
  • Technical Criteria weight: 70%;
  • Financial Criteria weight: 30%.

Technical Evaluation Criteria – 70% (100 points)

  • Extensive experience in marketing, advertising and copywriting, proven by work history (30 pts)
  • Strong portfolio / work samples demonstrating creative abilities in a range of media (50 pts)
  • Familiarity with UN System or similar organization -and the SDGs (20 pts)

Only candidates obtaining a minimum of 70% (70 points) of the maximum obtainable points for the e technical evaluation will be considered for the Financial Evaluation.

Contract Award

Candidate obtaining the highest combined scores in the combined score of Technical and Financial evaluation will be considered technically qualified and will be offered to enter into contract with UNDP.
