Under the guidance and supervision of the Communications Specialist, the intern will provide support in the selection process of the Growth Stage Impact Ventures initiative (GSIV) and in the arrangement of the  SDG Finance Geneva Summit (SGSGeneva) in Geneva.

UNDP Geneva, through the GSIV, a highly competitive process, strives to identify 12 innovative entrepreneurs from emerging markets who have developed at-scale products and services that contribute to solving some of the main economic, social, and environmental challenges of our time while achieving commercial success. The resulting innovators and start-ups represent top-notch impact-focused entrepreneurs, showcasing some of the best investable ideas and business models to implement the SDGs.

The SGSGeneva brings together entrepreneurs, impact investors, representatives from the global supply chain, international organizations, and bilateral cooperation - connecting them and bridging their expertise to accelerate the implementation of the SDGs.

The Summit focuses on the catalytic role impact driven entrepreneurship can play for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and how blended finance can fill the financial gap to implement the SDGs.

Devoirs et responsabilités

Under the direct supervision of the Communications Specialist, the intern will carry out the following tasks:

  • Map the financial sector in Europe that is active in impact investing to expand a list of nominators to be approached in view of the opening of the Call for Nominations for the Growth Stage Impact Ventures for the SDGs (GSIV) Selection, reach out and follow up on creating relationships; Map as well publications and Newsletters, social media accounts that Target the right audience of nominators that could be leveraged as dissemination channels;
  • Based on the desk research, support task manager in further refining the business model of the GSIV and provide suggestions of partners that would be interested to support through sponsorship (cash and in kind) the GSIV initiative;
  • Identify within the missions based in Switzerland investment specialists and map within the UN agencies sustainable finance, trade finance and entrepreneurship experts to be invited at the SGSGeneva;
  • Support the organization of the Call for Nominations for the GSIV liaising with partners and nominators;
  • Support the evaluation process and the smooth functioning of the Technical Committee and Advisory board;
  • Perform due-diligence for the selected impact ventures;
  • Read thematic reports and prepare summary notes, follow handles of thought leaders of the sector on social media, prepare questions for Q&A with financial sector leaders;
  • Assist in preparing social media content, in order to promote the SDG Finance Geneva Summit and the GSIV selection among the financial sector in Europe.

Qualifications et expériences requises

Education:

  • Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: a) be enrolled in a second university degree programme (Master Degree) or b) have graduated with a university degree in a relevant and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;
  • Preferred field of studies: Economics, Finance, Sustainable development.

Experience:

  • Experience in desk research;
  • Experience in drafting reports and using data for visual communication;
  • Knowledge of impact investing, blended finance or traditional finance.

Language:

  • Strong spoken and written English is required;
  • Knowledge of French is an asset.

Conditions of the Internship:

  • As of 1 January 2020, Interns may be given a stipend according to the UNDP Internship Policies, if is not financially supported by any institution or programme, such as a university, government, foundation or scholarship programme;
  • Interns are responsible for securing adequate medical insurance for the duration of the internship. UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
  • The intern is responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed;
  • Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship;
  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity;
  • The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UNDP but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship;
  • The intern will be evaluated at the end of the contract and due recognition of work will be issued in writing.

  • Medical Certificate of Good Health;
  • Proof of medical insurance.
