UNDP Solomon Island Office is part of the UNDP Pacific Office in Fiji, which formally came into existence in April 2016, as a result of the realignment process of the former Fiji-based Pacific Centre and the UNDP Multi-Country Office. Amongst the programmes overseen by the UNDP Pacific Office in Fiji, UNDP Solomon Island programme is the largest, averaging 6 to 7 million USD delivery per year.

In line with the programmatic focus of UNDP in the Pacific, the three programme units have been created to be headed by the Team Leader:  Effective Governance, Sustainable Development and Resilience, and Inclusive Growth. In addition, there is a unit dedicated to results-based management and communications. The unit leaders are directly reporting to the Head of Office/Country Manager and working closely with the Team Leaders and members based in Suva on programme formulation, oversight and implementation, as well as policy advice and advocacy to meet the development needs of the Government and people of Solomon Islands. For operations, the team in Solomon Islands is headed by the Operations Manager and works closely with the Joint Operations Centre based in Suva to ensure efficiency and compliance of administrative services.

Under the direct supervision of the Operations Manager, the Intern provides administrative support in Human Resources and Procurement tracks working closely with the Procurement and Human Resources colleagues in the Solomon Islands office and liaising with Human Resources colleagues in Fiji.

Purpose of UNDP’s Internship Programme is to:

  • Provide a framework by which students from diverse academic backgrounds may be assigned to UNDP office, where their educational experience can be enhanced through practical work assignments;
  • Expose them to an international environment;
  • Expose them to work of the Organization with the objective of deepening their knowledge and understanding of UNDP goals, principles and activities;
  • Provide UNDP office with the assistance of qualified students specialized in various professional fields.

Devoirs et responsabilités

The typical tasks performed by interns include:

  • Assistance to the procurement and human resources units with preparation of tender documents, evaluation reports, reference checks and follow-up with candidates/vendors;
  • Support the Operations Manager with market research and analysis
  • Assist in maintenance of proper filing and convey meetings for interviews as and when required;
  • Support in arrangement of travels, hotel reservations and events

General Internships Terms & Conditions:

  • The Internship programme is governed by the UNDP Internship policy framework & rules.
  • Under the new revised UNDP internship policy, UNDP will provide a modest monthly internship stipend to its interns.
  • UNDP interns accrue leave at a rate of 1.5 days per month;
  • Selected Interns must be able to share proof of education enrolment and/ or graduation, medical/ health and life/accident insurance, valid for the location in which the internship will be carried out and be able to provide insurance documentary proof at the time of their selection;
  • There is no expectation of employment at the end of these internships.
  • UNDP is not responsible for any claims by an intern or third party in the case of loss or damage to property or death or personal injury as a result of actions or omissions on the part of the intern during the internship period.

 Working conditions:

  • During the internship session, interns will be provided with a desk and computer access.

Qualifications et expériences requises

Education:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
  • Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.

Experience:

  • Work experience is not a requirement for the internship
  • Knowledge of the local environment is a key requirement

Language:

  • Proficiency in English;
