Historique

The Resident Coordinator (RC) system encompasses all organizations of the UN system dealing with operational activities for development, regardless of their formal presence in the country. The RC system brings together the various UN agencies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of operational activities at the country level. RCs are leaders of the UN Country Teams (UNCT) in over 130 countries and are the designated representatives of the Secretary-General at the country level. Working closely with national governments, RCs advocate the interests and mandates of the UN system while drawing on the support and guidance of the entire UN family. In Turkmenistan, the UN country team (UNCT) consists of 19 agencies and supports Turkmenistan’s efforts for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and supports the government’s efforts to achieve international commitments. The Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) provides policy and secretariat services to the RC and the UNCT in order to promote strategic support for national plans and priorities, make operations more efficient and reduce transaction costs for governments, and advocate for the UN’s norms and standards. Currently, the office composes of two international staff and six national staff. In 2021 a new cycle of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework between the UN and the Government of Turkmenistan for 2021-2025 has started. the year 2021 has been announced as the Year of peace and trust globally and in Turkmenistan. Furthermore 2021 marks the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence. Thus a number of high-level events are planned throughout the year, the preparation for which will require close engagement of the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator. All these requires enormous amount of work, including online and offline dialogues in as many communities and countries as possible, and across borders, sectors and generations. In this context, the RCO is looking for interns who have a strong interest and passion in working for the UN development system and its reform and is willing to learn a wide range of areas which the RCO deals with on a daily basis, including partnership building, human rights, data, communications and advocacy, resource mobilization, among many others.


Devoirs et responsabilités

Under the overall supervision of the RCO Team Leader, the intern will work with the RCO to collaborate with the RCO staff to arrange, plan, manage, support, and follow up on meetings, events, and various other activities. The intern is expected to work with colleagues from various UN agencies. The intern will:

  • Provide relevant logistics support to the RCO staff in organization of coordination activities, including monthly UNCT meetings, Communication Group meetings, CF Results Groups meetings, UNCT Retreat, other high-level meetings and communication and advocacy events;
  • Support the compilation and preparation of presentation materials;
  • Support with development of, data entry to and translation of Excel tables for data analysis and reporting purposes generated through UNINFO and other sources of information;
  • UN visibility and media materials (print, video and digital): translation of prepared stories/press releases on activities into English, Russian and Turkmen, research of and support in developing innovative and interesting content, design and format; help in informal/quick pretesting of the materials among young people as appropriate;
  • Social media: research interesting and additional content from other countries and partners, support in producing new content for social media accounts, monitor for the new content/feedback; drafting messages; actively expanding the network of followers.
  • Assist in the website administration by researching and suggesting new and interesting content, draft content;
  • Participating in monthly meetings of the UN Communications Group involved in the implementation of the UN Communications Strategies and Plans and drafting meetings’ minutes.
  • Translating other UN materials (English, Russian, Turkmen) if required
  • Support the RCO with other ad hoc endeavours, as requested.

Qualifications et expériences requises

Required Skills and Experience

  • Enrolment in a graduate school programme or in the final academic year of a first university degree programme in Political Science, Economics, International Development or any other relevant field. Graduates with a university degree, including a master/doctoral degree, are also welcomed to apply, but they must start the internship within one-year of graduation;
  • Experience in research, drafting and editing documents is an asset;
  • Understanding of Turkmenistan’s political and socio-economic situation is an asset;
  • Fluency in English, Russian and Turkmen;

 

Qualifications:

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Turkmenistan Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

• Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

(a) be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher);

(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent);

(c) have recently graduated with a university degree, and if selected must start the internship within one-year period of graduation;

(d) be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship programme and undertake the internship as part of this programme.

• Be computer literate in standard software applications and preferably skilled in one of the graphic design/video editing software;

• Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

 

Work Experience

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.

Kindly note that selected intern will be required the following:

· a Medical Certificate of Good Health from a recognized physician

· proof of medical insurance valid for Turkmenistan for duration of contract;

 

Financial matters:

Starting January 2020 the UNDP will provide a stipend to all interns.

The stipend has been set at 45% of the UNDP Service Contract scale at the SC1/1 level at each duty station.

UNDP only accepts interns for a minimum of 6 weeks and a maximum of 6 months.

UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship. Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.

Subsequent Employment:

The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UN but to complement an intern’s studies.

Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship
