Antecedentes

UNDP works in about 170 countries and territories, helping to achieve the eradication of poverty, and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion. We help countries to develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities and build resilience to sustain development results.

INTERNSHIP OFFICE BACKGROUND
To support the Government of Malaysia to take initial steps and plan sequenced strategies for mobilizing and aligning public and private resources to the 2030 Agenda, UNDP is implementing the Integrated National Financing Framework (INFF) which presents an agreed upon global framework to implement the Addis Ababa Action Agenda. 

The result of the INFF will be a more adaptive and robust financing approach that allows the Government of Malaysia (GOM) to maximize development finance, improve alignment between all forms of finance and the SDGs, while ensuring future risks of pandemics and other exogenous shocks are better mitigated. The INFF project will maintain flexibility to ensure that priorities for financing the SDGs consider the implications of COVID-19 as they become more fully understood.  As such, the project will aim to use INFF tools and facility to support the SDG financing in a robust, flexible but also ambitious way.

In this context the intern will work with the LIGHTS units on SDG Financing to support the INFF programme. The intern will particularly be involved in the areas of Islamic Financing, Private Sector Strategic Interventions and Sustainable Finance which will entail exciting, meaningful, and challenging work with government agencies, other UN agencies, International Financial Institutions, civil society organisations, academia and more.

The intern will report primarily to the INFF Programme Manager and work as a team with other colleagues in carrying out his/her duties.

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

Education: 
Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements:

• currently enrolled in a Master’s degree; or in the final year of their Bachelor’s degree;
• have graduated no longer than 1 year ago from their academic degree or equivalent studies; or
• enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship programme and undertake the internship as part of this programme.

Field of study: Social Sciences, Humanities, Economics or equivalent. Specialisation in Development Economics, Sustainable Development, Sustainable Finance, Islamic Finance is preferred 

Experience

• No work experience necessary but candidates with prior related experience will be prioritised.
• Understanding and familiarity with the SDGs, HDR and other economic policies related to social development, would be advantageous.

IT skills:

• Knowledge and a proficient user of Microsoft Office productivity tools;
• Familiarity with graphic and web design, data analytic and mapping, and/or social media tools and platforms is an advantage.

Language skills:

• Fluency in English is required;
• Knowledge of Malay is an advantage;
• Knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage.

V. INTERNSHIP CONDITIONS

• UNDP will provide a stipend in the amount of RM637.50 monthly in accordance with the provisions of the UNDP Internship policy. All expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern or her/his sponsoring entity;
• UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
• Interns are responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed;
• Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship;
• Interns must provide proof of enrolment in health insurance plan;
• Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity;
• Interns are expected to work full time but flexibility is allowed for education programmes;
• Interns need to obtain financing for subsistence and make own arrangements for internship, travel, VISA, accommodation, etc.
