Antecedentes

 

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA) is the nodal Ministry for overall policy, planning and coordination of programmes for development of ST’s. The Ministry performs task of implementation in accordance with the provisions of Constitution, which includes legislative measures, development schemes, programmes and special initiatives and promoting voluntary efforts through grants and aids to CSOs/NGOs for holistic development of Tribal community in the country.

 

MoTA has developed comprehensive data-driven digital governance model and has undertaken various steps towards creating robust online system to empower tribal communities. All schemes are end-to-end digitalized and there is constant effort to improve digital governance with introduction of latest and advance Interventions of like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Big Data Analytics, etc.

 

These portals provide a central database for Ministry of Tribal Affairs and the State Tribal Development/ Welfare Department to access, interact and analyse up-to-date scheme wise physical and financial information and progress. The portals also enable the officials/stakeholders at Central, State, District, Block and village level to access, monitor and measure performance in a real-time basis and take decisions accordingly.

 

Besides, there are secondary database such as Census, National Sample Surveys, National Family Health Surveys, Sample Registration, Economic Census and other large scale survey data from National Research Institutes, Tribal Research Institutes and other agencies available for evidence base policy development.

 

UNDP is providing technical assistance to MoTA to strengthen the subsystems for an effective implementation of various schemes/programmes and initiatives for holistic development of tribal community in the country.

Deberes y responsabilidades

Within the above scope, the intern will work under the guidance of the Special Director, National Tribal Research Institute and close consultation with National Programme Officer – System Strengthening, UNDP to carry out the following tasks:

  • Develop and implement mechanism for data collection, collation and cleaning for optimize statistical efficiency and quality; 
  • Compile, interpret and analyze data available on the different portals/dashboards of the Ministry (Performance Dashboard, ADIGRAM portal etc.) using appropriate statistical and analytical techniques;
  • Analyzing existing data sourced from Census, NSS, NFHSs, Mission Antyodaya, SECC etc. to feed into the planning process for model tribal village development/GPDP and identification of development deficit in different domain in regions inhabited by tribal communities;
  • Preparing effective presentations, data tables/ infographics/factsheets, statistical profile etc. to communicate findings from data analysis to range of audiences;
  • Assist in drafting of theme-based policy research briefs for evidence-based policy advocacy;
  • Establish appropriate systems and processes for managing, analyzing and presenting data;
  • Providing general research and logistical support for key meetings and conferences;
  • Any other tasks as advised by the team.

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

(a) Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher); Candidates with Data Science, Economics, Statistics, Sociology, Social Work and other social science background are preferred

(b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent); Candidates with Candidates with Data Science, Economics, Statistics, Sociology, Social Work and other social science background are preferred

(c) Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;

(d) Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.
