Background

 

 

The United Nations in Jordan, under the leadership of the Resident Coordinator, is currently designing the next United Nations Cooperation Framework for 2023 -2027. Among the strategic priorities of the country team, one of them is to strategically reposition the UN system as a key development actor in the country and to strengthen the engagement with the International Financing Institutions.

The candidate will work with different members of the team mostly in the areas of coordination support and the nexus between humanitarian and development.

Deberes y responsabilidades

Duties of Intern

The selected candidate will support the Resident Coordinator Office team by performing the following duties:

 

 

• Support the development of the new UN Country Team’s Cooperation Framework, including conducting related analyses, mapping and support the office’s engagement with bilateral and multilateral partners.

 

  • Support the development of the UN Country Team’s policy briefs under Building Forward Better, Climate Action and Accountable institutions.

 

 

• Conduct research about good practices of cross-pillar collaboration among humanitarian, development and peace actors in the Middle East region and identify good practices that could be relevant to the Jordan

 

  • Monitor donor’s contributions to Jordan and consolidate them in a user-friendly way. Perform related analyses, as appropriate.

 

•     Support the office with management of partnerships and support related stakeholder events.

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

Applicants to the internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements under Public Administration or other relevant subjects is required.

 

  1. Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements:
  2. currently in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree; or
  3. currently enrolled in a Master’s degree; or
  4. have graduated no longer than 1 year ago from a master’s degree or equivalent studies

 

Language requirements:

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required.
  • Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Arabic would be an asset but does not constitute a requirement

Duration of Internship Programme and Working Hours

  • Internship assignments vary in length according to the academic requirements of the intern, as well as the needs of UNDP. Assignments normally last a minimum of six weeks and a maximum of six months. An internship may last up to nine months if the intern can demonstrate that it will award them an educational credit for a course.
  • Internship assignments completed as part of national service obligations or a postgraduate professional traineeship program may last up to 12 months.
  • This Internship is available on full-time basis, five days a week from Sunday to Thursday

 

Stipend

 

Where an intern is not financially supported by any institution or programme, such as a university, government, foundation or scholarship programme, a stipend intended to help cover basic daily expenses related to the internship, such as meals and transportation at the duty station, must be paid by the receiving office.

 

The monthly amount of the stipend will be determined for each duty station based on the stipend rates published yearly by the OHR Policy and Compensation Unit. The stipend will be paid on a monthly basis and part-time internship arrangements are prorated accordingly.

 

Where an intern is financially supported by an institution, government or third party, UNDP will, subject to the rules of such institution, government or third party, pay the intern the difference, if any, between the external financial support provided and the applicable UNDP stipend.

No other payments of any kind will be made to an intern by the office in connection with an internship agreement.
