CORPORATE BACKGROUND
UNDP works in about 170 countries and territories, helping to achieve the eradication of poverty, and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion. We help countries to develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities and build resilience in order to sustain development results.

INTERNSHIP OFFICE BACKGROUND
The UNDP Accelerator Labs (AccLabs) is the world’s largest and fastest learning network on wicked sustainable development challenges. Co-built as a joint-venture with the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany and the Qatar Fund for Development, the Network covers 115 countries, and taps into local innovations to create actionable insights and reimagine sustainable development for the 21st century.  

The AccLabs are transforming our collective approach by introducing new services, backed by evidence and practice, and by accelerating the testing and dissemination of solutions within and across countries. Sense-making, collective intelligence, solutions mapping and experimentation will be part of the new offer from UNDP to governments. The AccLabs will analyze challenges within local contexts to identify connections and patterns in search of new avenues of work to act effectively in addressing wicked development challenges.

The Intern will work with the Accelerator Lab Malaysia to develop and deploy Accelerator Lab methodologies to address development challenges in Malaysia.

Deberes y responsabilidades

The Intern will assist in the following duties and responsibilities: 

 For the coming cycle, AccLab Interns will be expected to undertake site visits, conduct desk research, support focus group discussions, liaise with external partners, and undertake data collection and analysis.  Areas of work include but are not limited to sustainable tourism, community action for integrated watershed management, rural economic development, and digitalization.

Other requirement/s:

• Must be willing to travel (within country) for site observations and engagement events where situation permits.

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

Education: 
Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements:

• currently in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree; or
• currently enrolled in a Master’s degree; or
• have graduated no longer than 1 year ago from a bachelor’s or master’s degree or equivalent studies; or
• enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship programme and undertake the internship as part of this programme.

Field of study: All academic backgrounds welcome, but priority will be given to candidates with interdisciplinary experience, e.g., science and society, social sciences, arts and humanities, policy or equivalent. 

IT skills:

• Knowledge and a proficient user of Microsoft Office productivity tools;
• Familiarity with design, mapping, and/or social media tools and platforms is an advantage.

Language skills:

• Malay and English required;
• Other major Malaysian languages, e.g., Chinese and Tamil, is an advantage;
• Knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage.

INTERNSHIP CONDITIONS

• UNDP will provide a stipend in the amount of RM637.50 monthly in accordance with the provisions of the UNDP Internship Policy. All expenses connected with the internship (except costs associated with site visits outside of duty station, as described above) will be borne by the Intern or her/his sponsoring entity;
• UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
• Interns are responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed;
• Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship;
• Interns must provide proof of enrolment in health insurance plan;
• Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity;
• Interns are expected to work full time but flexibility is allowed for education programmes;
• Interns need to obtain financing for subsistence and make own arrangements for internship, travel, visa, accommodation, etc.
