Background

The UN Capital Development Fund makes public and private finance work for the poor in the world’s 46 least developed countries (LDCs).

UNCDF offers “last mile” finance models that unlock public and private resources, especially at the domestic level, to reduce poverty and support local economic development.

UNCDF’s financing models work through three channels: (1) inclusive digital economies, which connects individuals, households, and small businesses with financial eco-systems that catalyze participation in the local economy, and provide tools to climb out of poverty and manage financial lives; (2) local development finance, which capacitates localities through fiscal decentralization, innovative municipal finance, and structured project finance to drive local economic expansion and sustainable development; and (3) investment finance, which provides catalytic financial structuring, de-risking, and capital deployment to drive SDG impact and domestic resource mobilization.

The Local Transformative Finance Practice employs its flagship Dual Key: Investing with Impact methodology to its revenue generating pipelines. This highly recognised and successful approach ensures that selected investments meet both the financial and thematic impact requirements, according to measurable indicators, impact assessment filters and criteria, while ensuring the financial sustainability and transformative impact of the investments on the local economy. The LTF Dual Key Investment Committee was established in 2017, with high profile internal and external members, to provide oversight on the investments and support the decision-making process on the financial and development impact credibility and sustainability

The Intern will be part of the Dual Key SDG Impact Team, Local Transformative Finance Practice, in UNCDF Headquarters in New York (USA). (https://www.uncdf.org/dual-key )

Under the guidance and supervision of the Dual Key Investment Manager, and in close coordination with the Dual Key Communications Lead, the Intern will support the implementation of the UNCDF Dual Key communications workplan for 2022, including various related tasks to (i) Communications and Branding and (ii) SDG Impact, Knowledge Management and lessons learned across the investment portfolio.

Deberes y responsabilidades

Duties and Responsibilities

Update content of UNCDF’s Dual Key website, including investment teasers, technical documents and lessons learned, and news texts.
Keep the website compliant with the organization’s branding, taxonomy and web management policies and guidelines.
Source, edit and publish photos and videos.
Conceptualize, create and publish visual pieces, e.g. infographics, to improve user experience.
Support the gathering and consolidation of information, case studies, news and stories for the Dual Key website.
Provide editorial and design inputs to enhance the site, marketing materials, brochures, newsletter and other communication materials focused on transformative Impact and learning.
Write blogs, feature and success stories about results achieved and efforts pursued under the Dual Key investment portfolio, based on relevant inputs from project/programme managers, investment officers, partners and donors.
Assist in boosting the Dual Key advocacy efforts and presence in online communications and social media; provide assistance in providing regular content to UNCDF online platforms including Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram.
Assist the Dual Key team in organizing its Annual Planning and Investment meeting, events, seminars and conferences, podcast, newsletter, and other global campaigns.

Further, the internship manager is committed to providing the intern with the training, guidance and support necessary to complete the below duties and responsibilities effectively and within the internship period. This will include, but not be limited to, scheduled meetings (weekly) to assess output progress, systems training (if required) and completion of required university reports for the purpose of meeting any necessary Degree requirements.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

Candidate must be enrolled in a degree programme in Communications, Graphic Design, Marketing or another related field.

Candidate must either be:

Enrolled in graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent or higher);
Enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent);
Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;

Additional assignment-specific qualifications:

Good understanding of international relations and development.

Experience:

Knowledge of online communication technologies.
Knowledge of web design, usability, information architecture.
Knowledge of search engine optimization techniques and web analytics tools.
Competency in content management.
Proficiency in professional desktop publishing, photo editing, graphic digital design and presentation.
Knowledge of HTML and CSS is an advantage.
Knowledge of Microsoft Power Apps, Microsoft Power Bi is an advantage.
Experience in communications and social media outreach.
Proficient in using new technologies, web-based platforms and social media networks; familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite and other design platforms is a plus.
Self-starter; organized; able to multitask and balance multiple responsibilities.

Languages:

Fluency in English is required.
Knowledge of other UN languages will be considered a plus.

General Internships Terms & Conditions:

UNCDF Internship programme is governed by the UNDP Internship Policy Framework & Rules.
The maximum internship duration is 6 months.
Interns are partially financially remunerated by UNCDF. The costs associated with the assignment will be partially supported by UNCDF and the rest to be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his/her own arrangements for travel, accommodation, etc. Proof of medical and life/accident insurance valid for the location in which the internship will be carried out.
Under the new revised UNDP Internship Policy, UNCDF will provide a modest monthly internship stipend to its interns, in accordance with the provisions of the UNDP Internship Policy. All expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern or her/his sponsoring entity/institution. Stipends are available only for full-time/on-site internships at this time.
Selected Interns must be able to share proof of education enrolment and/ or graduation, medical/health and life/accident insurance, valid for the location in which the internship will be carried out and be able to provide insurance documentary proof at the time of their selection.
It is expected that due to CoVID-19 restrictions in place, the most- immediate internship assignments will be home-based till the situation in respective duty station improves.
The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UNCDF but to complement an Intern’s studies and learning growth.
There is no expectation of employment at the end of these internships.
