Antecedentes

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

UN Women in Sudan is working to promote GEWE in the key priority corporate areas of women’s economic empowerment, women’s leadership and political participation, and women, peace and security and humanitarian action. UN Women Sudan has an annual work plan for 2022 that is aligned to its Strategic Note and the SDGs aiming to support GEWE through series of research to avail the gender disaggregated data to support evidence-based planning and effectively monitor change. UN Women is also supporting the strengthening of the women’s movement to build a women agenda in the different areas of intervention of the country office and support the advocacy for transformative change.

UN Women Sudan seeks to engage two (2) copy editors through a retainer contract to edit research, communications materials, briefs, reports and other documents and materials that reflect high quality, result-based standard and format established by UN Women

Deberes y responsabilidades

The consultant is responsible for the following:

  • Copy editing, revising and rewriting as needed and formatting to produce high quality, reader-friendly, accessible, timely, results-based donor, programme and corporate communications materials; research and policy reports and briefs; and other documents and materials aligned with UN Women's established standards and formats, and in compliance with the country office's clearance process.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

III. Expected deliverables

  • Copy edited research, communications materials, briefs, reports and other documents and materials that reflect high quality, result-based standard and format established by UN Women.

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

  • Master's degree or other advanced degree in social sciences, international development, and/or communications, with at least 7 years of work experience; or bachelor’s degree in those fields with at least 10 years of work experience.
  • Work experience in writing, editing, reporting, and communicating complex programmatic information in reader-friendly formats and styles.
  • A demonstrated ability to write and copy edit high quality English-language reports and information within the guidelines of the United Nations Editorial Manual and using the United Nations spelling.
  • Understanding of international development, resource mobilization, and the UN context is an asset. Work experience with UN Agencies or development and research organizations is an asset.
  • Must be capable of effectively using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
