UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. UN Women’s India Country Office works towards promoting women’s role in peace building, intergovernmental processes, UN interagency coordination. As the UN agency with the mandate to work on gender equality, UN Women is responsible for leading and coordinating United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world and at the country level. UN Women is also expected to provide strong and coherent leadership in support of countries’ priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society, the nodal government agency, private sector and other relevant actors. The Intergovernmental Processes & Inter-Agency Coordination in UN Women India CO plays a central role to deliver on UN Women’s normative support functions and strengthens linkages between normative work and operational activities. It contributes to the Entity’s support for the development and strengthening of a comprehensive set of global norms, policies and standards on gender equality and women’s empowerment that is dynamic, responds to new and emerging issues, challenges and opportunities and is applied through action by Governments and other stakeholders at all levels. The Unit also has special responsibility for the coordination of substantive servicing of intergovernmental and expert bodies as mandated in relevant legislative documents. UN Women is managing a programme of work called Generation Equality. This is a programme to galvanize all stakeholders to implement actions that remove the most egregious barriers to gender equality. This position will support the programme analyst, manage and implement Generation Equality. Reporting to the Programme Analyst, Intergovernmental Processes, UN System Coordination and Women, Peace and Security, the Consultant - Programme Coordinator contributes to the effective management of UN Women programmes in the India CO by providing substantive inputs to programme design, formulation, implementation and evaluation. S/he guides and facilitates the delivery of UN Women programmes by monitoring results achieved during implementation and ensuring appropriate application of systems and procedures and develops enhancements if necessary. She/he coordinates on the activities under the Generation Equality global programme and will work in close collaboration with the programme and operations team, UN Women HQ staff, Government officials, multi and bi lateral donors and civil society ensuring successful UN Women programme implementation under portfolio. The Consultant - Programme Coordinator supervises and leads programme support staff, coordinates activities of the projects’ staff. The Consultant - Programme Coordinator works in close collaboration with the operations team, programme staff in other UN Agencies, UN Women HQs/RO staff and Government officials, technical advisors and experts, multi-lateral and bi-lateral donors and civil society ensuring successful UN Women programme implementation.
