UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. In 2015, on 25 September, the United Nations General Assembly adopted unanimously the Resolution 70/1 Transforming our World: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Gender equality and women’s empowerment is at the heart of the agenda, as numerous goals and targets address structural barriers to achieve equal rights and opportunities between women and men, girls and boys.

As a global champion for women and girls, UN Women was established to accelerate progress on meeting their needs worldwide. UN Women works consistently to disrupt stereotypes and engage diverse constituencies on gender equality. While UN Women, as a United Nations body, does not have any commercial affiliation or endorse any product or service, it is proud to convene the Unstereotype Alliance and is pleased to partner with the leading players. UN Women welcomes the participation of industry members and encourage others to join us in support of the Alliance.

The Unstereotype Alliance is a thought and action platform convened by UN Women, that uses advertising as a force for good to drive positive change. It seeks to eradicate harmful gender-based stereotypes. The alliance is focused on empowering women in all their diversity (race, class, age, ability, ethnicity, religion, sexuality, language, education, etc.) and addressing harmful masculinities to help create a gender equal world. The Alliance brings together a powerful global coalition of industry leaders behind the common goal of eliminating gender bias and harmful gender stereotypes from their advertising.  The Unstereotype Alliance provides an opportunity of leveraging the platform in enabling the private sector companies to address harmful gender-based stereotypes in all media and advertising and systematically depict women and men as empowered actors with progressive, intelligent and multi-dimensional personalities. Recognizing the power of partnerships to accelerate progress, this industry-led initiative convened by UN Women unites leaders across business, technology and creative industries to tackle the widespread prevalence of stereotypes that are often perpetuated through advertising and content.

The Unstereotype Alliance has been embraced by businesses and organizations who have been champions of addressing gender bias in the industry. The Unstereotype Alliance aims to tackle how the industry can affect positive cultural change by using the power of advertising to help shape perceptions that reflect realistic, non-biased portrayals of women and men.

Reporting to the Country Programme Manager, WEE in UN Women India office, Project Coordination Analyst is responsible for supporting the planning, coordination and implementation of the Unstereotype Alliance India Chapter to increase the standing and awareness of transforming gender-based stereotypes in media and advertising content. She/he will coordinate all new and existing chapters with Due Diligence research, and on global projects requiring National Chapter engagement and will provide support to the wider Unstereotype Alliance team as appropriate to plan for 2022 UA events.
