Antecedentes

Grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, UN Women will work for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

In collaboration with Capacity Development and Knowledge Management sections, Santo Domingo Training Centre will develop and implement UN Women’s strategy for capacity development of national partners in key functions, as well as for UN system staff. It will develop UN system training programmes in gender equality and empowerment of women, in close partnership with UN Staff College, UNITAR, and other UN training institutions, making maximum use of on-line training techniques.

The Communications Analyst post is based at the UN Women Training Centre in Santo Domingo. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Training Programme Coordinator. He/She will be responsible for: (i) implementing the Training Centre’s strategic approach to eLearning, and (ii) supporting the Training Centre’s knowledge management efforts.

Summary of key functions:

  • Implementation of the Training Centre’s strategic approach to eLearning;

  • Facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing;
  • Maintenance of the eLearning Campus.

Implementation of the Training Centre’s strategic approach to eLearning, focusing on the following results:

  • Overseeing the packaging and implementation of online training courses and materials, including application of new technologies to the development of online courses and materials in collaboration with UN Women staff and webmasters;
  • Supporting the development of online course content so that it is easily packaged;
  • Providing, upon request, pedagogical and technical assistance to on-line tutors under the supervision of the course manager;
  • Providing pedagogical and technical assistance to participants by helping them to select appropriate learning paths among the existing options and responding to requests (on occasion by liaising with UN Women Staff, tutors and IT specialists);
  • Supporting implementation of online learning activities such as preparing online discussions and coordinating and hosting webinars;
  • Supporting  activity managers in the selection and recruitment of participants on the basis of eligibility and selection criteria established by the activity manager;
  • Providing specific assistance to on-line tutors (either external collaborators or Training Centre staff) under the supervision of the activity manager concerned;
  • Providing pedagogical and technical assistance to participants by responding to various requests either autonomously or by liaising with the activity manager, tutors and IT specialists;
  • Monitoring trainees’ participation and tutors’ activity on the platform and provide updates on the online activities to the team of assistants, tutors and activity manager as needed;
  • Documenting lessons learned and good practices in delivery of moderated and blended courses;
  • Applying Training Centre Quality Assurance mechanisms to course development and implementation as needed;
  • Implementing TC Evaluation tools and processes; following up and maintaining the Training Centre Evaluation Database and supporting the development of course evaluation reports as necessary.

Promotion of innovation in the use of eLearning, focusing on the following results:

  • Review training programmes, courses and tools to assess potential for on-line delivery and advise on activities that can be redesigned/enhanced using eLearning;
  • Works with Training Centre staff and other experts in the continued development of the Training Centre’s vision of maximizing eLearning;
  • Developing capacity of other staff in eLearning through coaching and support.

Facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing, focusing on the following results:

  • Promote courses/tools, through on-line advertisements, emails and other communications systems, including social media;
  • Prepare the content and oversee automated postings of newsletters and provide periodic reports based on monitoring of audience profiles;
  • Advise on the use of new technologies to widen the outreach of training resources and tools;
  • Contributing to the Training for Gender Equality Community of Practice, as needed, by creating and uploading content, hosting on line activities and facilitating online discussions; and contributing substantially to virtual dialogues and online discussions on TfGE;
  • Supporting technical and content coherence between TfGE CoP and eLearning Campus. Contributing to other knowledge networks as needed.

Maintenance of the eLearning Campus, focusing on the following results:

  • Updates and manages the eLearning Campus and its courses in collaboration with webmaster and other developers;
  • Ensuring that new courses/tools are uploaded to the platform and fully functional in all relevant languages;
  • Liaising with web developers for eLearning platform trouble shooting and improvements;
  • Preparation of quarterly reports on usage of the eLearning platform;
  • Oversee the functioning of the Community of Practice and the Training Roster;
  • Creating and uploading new learning and institutional content to the eLearning Campus, including courses modules, materials, etc.

Impact of Results

The efficient and prompt delivery of services will contribute to positioning the Training Centre as a leader in training for gender equality among the UN training institutions.

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

Education:

  • Advanced university degree or equivalent in International Relations, Communication, Educational Technology or other related field.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in assembling and assisting in the delivery of on-line and/or distance learning courses. Previous experience with a multilateral or international organization is highly desirable;
  • Excellent working knowledge of Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat;
  • Good knowledge web-based content and learning management systems (including moodle and joomla) and software to design and package courses (articulate, flash).

Languages:

  • Excellent written and spoken English. Additional knowledge of French and/or Spanish desirable;
  • Knowledge of other official UN language(s) will be an asset.

In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system (DAW, OSAGI, INSTRAW and UNIFEM), which focused exclusively on gender equality and women's empowerment.
