Antecedentes

UNDP is the UN’s global development network, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help empower lives and build resilient nations. UNDP in Sri Lanka works with the Government and all its partners to support the country achieve equitable and sustainable human development.

In support of Sri Lanka's move towards Good governance initiatives and development, the Governance for Empowerment and Social Inclusion (GESI) Programme cluster of UNDP focusses on the capacity, system development of national institutions and empowerment of communities, working to create sustainable livelihoods and promote human rights protection, focusing on marginalized groups, including women-headed households, youth, plantation sector workers and conflict-affected communities.

 

Deberes y responsabilidades

The GESI Team is offering a six month internship to focus on the following areas:

  • Contribute towards the production of project reports, publications and knowledge management tools of the programs of GESI
  • Provide support to turn in the available Divisional Resource Profiles in to District Resorce Profiles to be used for the development of District development plans,
  • Support the collection compilation of data and information for research and analysis from areas identified by the GLED Program, and in the Policy - problem area identification workshops of GLED Program.
  • Facilitate to conduct research on the above mentioned subjects
  • Provide support to the Evaluation initiatives of GESI Programs.
  • Perform analysis of issues, and contribute to the formation of the institutional responses with regard to the program if required.
  • Provide administrative support if required and any other tasks as advised by the Team.

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

  • Studies in the development-related fields, preferably with a focus on Development Studies, Law, Economics, Peace and Conflict Studies, Social Sciences, or any other related field;
  • Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills in English, and Sinhala and/or Tamil;
  • Ability to use computers and office software packages;
  • Experience working with media platforms and groups will be an advantage;
  • Website and social media management skills;
  • Proofreading and copy-editing;
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, interpersonal);
  • Detail-oriented with ability to work under pressure;
  • Responsible and accountable, with good capacity to work on sensitive issues.

Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); in the field of communications, public relations, languages, journalism or equivalent;
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
  • Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one
