Antecedentes

In response to the worldwide phenomenon of young men and women calling for meaningful civic, economic, social and political participation, UNDP’s Youth Strategy 2014-2017 recognizes the involvement of young men and women in participatory decision-making and development processes as vital to achieving sustainable human development. UNDP supports the capacity development of young people and youth-led organizations, and the development of youth caucuses in government, parliament and other bodies. We engage with relevant stakeholders through outreach, advocacy, thought leadership, global networks, and policy debates, in particular in the context of the post-2015 development agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. We also support the mainstreaming of youth issues in development planning and inter-ministerial and inter-sectorial coordination.

In July 2016, UNDP launched its first Youth Global Programme for Sustainable Development and Peace – Youth-GPS (2016-2020), a 5-year global programmatic offer on youth empowerment. Being LGBTI in Asia is a regional programme aimed at addressing inequality, violence and discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity or intersex status, and promotes universal access to health and social services. It is a collaboration between governments, civil society, regional institutions and other stakeholders to advance the social inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people. The programme recognizes that LGBTI people are highly marginalized and face varied forms of stigma and discrimination based on their distinct sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions.

Deberes y responsabilidades

The intern works under the direct supervision of the Policy Advisor HIV, Health and Development team, UNDP BRH. In this context, as a team member, s/he will provide support to the team’s overall resource mobilization efforts. Details are as follows:

Scope of work

The intern will be expected to address the following issues in completing this assignment:

Resource mapping (40%) Prepare a resource mobilization plan for the two initiatives (LGBTI and incision & Youth Empowerment) capturing initiatives and actors operating in the Asia and the Pacific with set of recommendations for mobilizing resources.
Research, documentation and knowledge management (30%) The intern will assist the teams in implementing a communication plan to raise awareness about the work UNDP is undertaking in this area through various channels of communication e.g. newsletter, website, intranet, meetings and conferences, calendar of events. The intern will help to update documentation and news on the site (internal and external). The intern will also research various issues related to the area of work, and provide support with editing and preparing reports. In addition, the intern will assist in analysing country office reporting, by using the designated UNDP tools.
Support meetings with partners and engage in UNDP events and interagency processes (10%) The intern will help manage general documentation and provide meeting support related to the team’s duties in these areas. The intern will also assist with the preparations for meetings between UNDP, and partners on issues relating to the work, including logistics and recording minutes.
Other Activities (10%) Support other tasks in the Effective Governance Team as required.

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

Education:

Enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or;
Enrolled in a final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent), or;
Graduated with a Master’s degree and if selected, must start the internship within one year after graduation.

Experience:

Knowledge and understanding of the UN system and the international development community;
Experience in research (online and offline) activities;
Experience with networking and mobilizing support;
Experience with negotiation and public speaking;
Experience with developing communication materials;
Experience in using Microsoft Office software package.

Language:

Fluency in spoken and written English.

Conditions:

UNDP internship programme does not provide a salary or remuneration for the internship;
All the expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern, sponsoring Government or institution;
UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
The intern is responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed;
Interns are not eligible to apply for any post in UNDP during the period of the internship;
Interns must provide proof of enrollment in health insurance plan;
Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.

Subsequent Employment:

There is no expectation of employment with UNDP following an internship.
