The Independent Evaluation Office (IEO) works to enhance the development effectiveness of UNDP to help men and women build a better life. IEO strengthens accountability and learning through evaluation and partnership. The mandated responsibility of IEO is to support the Administrator in his/her substantive accountability function and to contribute to organizational learning. The Independent Evaluation Office conducts strategic, thematic, programmatic and country level evaluations. It assures the quality and use of UNDP evaluations by establishing norms, standards and guidelines and by knowledge sharing and networking. The Office advances innovation in development evaluation through a global partnership.

This is the opportunity for a design graduate student to create innovative designed products in a UN agency present in more than 170 countries. Important: Please note that internships with UNDP are not paid.

Deberes y responsabilidades

The interested candidate will assist the IEO team with the following functions:

  • Contribute with creative ideas to reach and engage different audiences;
  • Conceptualize and develop visuals/creatives for use across different products such as PowerPoints, reports, documents, and other evaluation products;
  • Design infographics for use across IEO products and platforms;
  • Assist with research and execution of a wide variety of graphics projects as assigned, from inception through completion with the creation of mood boards, flowcharts, wireframes and design mock-ups; and
  • Provide overall Graphic Design support to the IEO team.

  • Proficient in main graphic design and photo editing software (Adobe Illustrator, InDesign or Photoshop);
  • Solid knowledge on designing for print and digital media;
  • Ability to convert complex and abstract ideas into simple visual concepts;
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task;
  • Must be able to work in a multicultural environment and be aware of political sensitivities.

Core competencies:

  • Demonstrates integrity by modelling the UN’s values and ethical standards;
  • Promotes the vision, mission, and strategic goals of UNDP;

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

Education:

Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) such as Graphic Design, Digital Graphics, Illustration, New Media Design and Imaging; Media Arts and Technology, Interactive Development; Film and Animation, or related field;  
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) in above mentioned fields;
  • Have graduated with a university degree  in above mentioned fields and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.

Language:

  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Conditions

UNDP may accept interns provided the following conditions are met:

  • Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP;
  • UNDP only accepts interns for a minimum of 6 weeks and a maximum of 6 months;
  • The costs associated must be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his or her own arrangements for travel, accommodation, visa, etc.; The intern is responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed;
  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for the medical and life insurance of the intern or costs arising from accidents and illness incurred during an internship;
  • The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UNDP, but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship. Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship or for six months immediately following the expiration date of internship;
  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.

In addition, selected candidate will need to:

  • Have a valid visa to work in the US;
  • Provide proof of medical and life/accident insurance valid for New York;
  • Provide a Medical Certificate of Good Health from a recognized physician;

Once the candidate has been selected, the following documents need to be submitted:

  • Copy of updated CV/resume
  • Official letter from University confirming enrolment in graduate-level degree programme & graduation date;
  • Copy of school transcript Copy of school transcript or copy of the University degree;
  • Letter of endorsement from a senior faculty member who has directly supervised the student in the recent past and who is fully acquainted with the student's performance
  • A brief cover letter setting out the reasons why he/she is seeking an internship with UNDP and what is expected from the experience
