Antecedentes

In September 2015, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was adopted by UN Member States. Central to the Agenda is the set of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which define a plan of action for people, planet and prosperity to be undertaken by all countries until the year 2030.

The UN SDG Action Campaign, is a special initiative of the UN Secretary-General that aims to inspire, connect and mobilize everyone to join the global movement to take action for the SDGs. The Campaign brings together the UN, national and local governments, youth groups, civil-society organizations, the media, and the private sector through calls to action and creative platforms to scale-up, broaden and sustain the global movement of SDG changemakers. Based in Bonn, Germany, the UN SDG Action Campaign leads global engagement opportunities and initiatives including: the Global Day to Act4SDGs on 25 September, the Global Festival for Action for Sustainable Development, held annually in Bonn, the MY World survey to capture citizen views on the SDGs, the UN SDG Action Awards, and the SDG Action network.

As a part of providing global support to partners the UN SDG Action Campaign is aiming to strengthen activities and the delivery of campaign toolkits to facilitate large scale advocacy and citizen participation around the world.

The UN SDG Action campaign is seeking to engage 3-4 interns to assist with core activities of the team in the areas of: project development and coordination, communications and outreach, events, digital strategy and knowledge management.The interns will be based in Bonn, Germany.

Deberes y responsabilidades

The specific activities assigned to each intern will be aligned with their skills and background in the areas of work. The duties and responsibilities will include:

1. Project Development and Coordination

  • Support development of UN SDG Action Campaign toolkits, including drafting and designing content updates, coordinating translations, testing and roll out of tools including for: MYWorld, UN SDG Action Awards, Global Festival of Action. 

  • Provide ongoing support and follow-up to coordinate campaign and outreach services with UN SDG Action Campaign partners

2. Communications and outreach

  • Support the development of coordinated media outreach efforts to increase the awareness of the UN SDG Action Campaign activities

  • Support the ongoing outreach activities through drafting messages, creating visuals and editing videos to promote and support UN SDG Action Campaign tools and services

3. Event and Administration Support

  • Represent UN SDG Action Campaign, as appropriate, in key Campaign initiatives  and other sustainable development events, including ensuring the Campaign’s presence at booths and exhibitions (as needed)

  • Provide logistical support to events (as needed)

  • Provide administrative support for the Bonn Global Campaign Center, including minor procurement activities, office supply management and facilitation of visits

  • General office support including note-taking, management of routine correspondence, meeting scheduling and organization and other general duties.


4. Knowledge Management

  • Support the development of a knowledge sharing platform to offer inventories of campaign plans, resources and toolkits to support the outreach and mobilization efforts of UN country team networks and other partners and to ensure synergies across countries and inform the ongoing processes to improve the products and services of the UN SDG Action Campaign

  • Support the drafting of good practices in global goals campaigns through research, writing and editing of partner case stories

 

5. Digital Platform and Helpdesk support

  • Curation of content on campaign website and other microsites

  • Support of the digital strategy and to the IT efforts Manage the service desk system that supports the Campaign’s outreach to partners  

  • Ensure timely and quality response to users, partners  and UN country teams Set specific customer service standards and improve first response times

  • Contribute to improving user support by actively responding to queries and handling complaints

  • Establish best practices, create automations through the entire support process

  • Follow up with users to identify areas of improvement

  • Develop daily, weekly and monthly reports on the SDG Action Campaign team’s productivity on helpdesk

  • Document user feedback and share with the internal team

  • Assist to build a knowledge system on frequently asked questions

Competencias

  • Strong writing and clear communications skills

  • Good organizational skills 

  • Ability to work independently on projects

  • Social media, video, graphic design and/or data visualization skills are an asset

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

  • Must be currently enrolled in Master’s degree (Master’s or equivalent) in international relations, sustainable development, social sciences, communications or related disciplines or within one year of graduation
  • Academic or professional experience in areas relevant to the SDGs 
  • Demonstrated experience in at least one of the areas outlined above (project development and coordination, communications, events and knowledge management)
  • Open to EU citizens or other nationalities currently studying/living in Germany.
