CORPORATE BACKGROUND: UNDP works in about 170 countries and territories, helping to achieve the eradication of poverty, and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion. We help countries to develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities and build resilience in order to sustain development results. UNDP is working to strengthen new frameworks for development, disaster risk reduction and climate change. We support countries' efforts to achieve the new Sustainable Development Goals, which will guide global development priorities through 2030. The key 2030 Agenda principle of leaving no one behind and stamping out inequality is at the core of everything we do. UNDP focuses on helping countries build and share solutions in three main areas:
In all our activities, we encourage the protection of human rights and the empowerment of women, minorities and the poorest and most vulnerable. INTERNSHIP OFFICE BACKGROUND: The UNDP project ‘Action for Cooperation against Trafficking in Persons (UN-ACT) was established in 2014 to support a stronger and more coordinated response to human trafficking in the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS). The main approach is to build the capacity of key stakeholders, and to facilitate coordination and cooperation among all relevant actors in order to achieve the following long-term project outcome: Key anti-trafficking stakeholders in the region are working in a more cooperative and mutually supportive manner to effectively combat trafficking in persons. To work towards this outcome, the project has identified the following four interlinked outputs: Output 1: Countries and regional actors increase their cooperation to effectively counter human trafficking; Output 2: The COMMIT Process is strengthened to become sustainable and self-reliant; Output 3: Policy makers, academia, non-governmental actors, and the public have increased access to evidence-based research and knowledge on trafficking; Output 4: Civil society and other non-governmental actors are able to contribute more effectively to anti-trafficking efforts. Project staff also serve as the Asia-Pacific focal point for UNDP’s evolving portfolio on migration and displacement
