Justice System Programme (JSP) has been supporting the justice sector in Timor-Leste in collaboration with the government, civil society and development partners for more than a decade. Building on the JSP’s concerted efforts to date, JSP Phase IV (2014-2018) aims to consolidate further the rule of law in Timor-Leste by strengthening the institutional capacity and improving access to justice of the vulnerable. The capacity development support focuses on the quality legal education for professionals through the Legal & Judicial Training Centre (LJTC) and reform of the state-owned legal aid system. Continuing the Mobile Justice and the new establishment of legal aid clinics are expected to reinforce access to justice for women and disadvantaged people in rural areas of Timor-Leste.

Deberes y responsabilidades

The main duties that the intern will be expected to carry out are:

  • Work closely with the Project Team to conduct desk research for literature reviews on access to justice;
  • Support in monitoring and evaluation of Justice System Programme activities especially Access to Justice Clinics and Continuing Legal Education; 
  • Produce quality and appropriate information materials for outreach to different audiences (Monthly newsletter, social media update, identify and write project success stories and project factsheet); 
  • Support event and event logistic and
  • Other relevant tasks as deemed necessary by the Project Manager.


Technical/Functional Competencies:

  • Excellent writing skills, as well as strong analytical aptitude and strong communication skills;
  • Ability to manage workload individually and collaborate with a wide range of colleagues while meeting deadlines;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: being able to listen and collaborate with a wide range of players, being able to work independently, being pro-active and taking initiative;
  • Creative skills to develop communication visuals;
  • Computer proficiency: MS Office;

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

(a) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); in Law, Human Rights, International Relations, Peace Studies,  Communications or related field.

(b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); As define in (a).

(c) Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation. As define in (a).
