UN Women Background:
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
Unit/ Project Background:
The Republic of Serbia is a signatory to a number of important and binding international documents, which guarantee the equality of men and women and prohibit gender-based discrimination, including the Council of Europe’s Social Charter, the European Convention on Human Rights, the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention) and the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). The national legal and policy framework for the advancement of women’s rights and gender equality encompasses the Constitution of Serbia (enacted in 2006) , which endorses equality for women and men; the National Policy of Equal Opportunities (article 15); the Gender Equality Law (2009) which stipulates state responsibilities to actively pursue policies of equal opportunities; and the key national document in in the area of gender equality National Strategy for Gender Equality 2016-2020 , with its respective Action Plan that was adopted following the Evaluation of the National Strategy for Gender Equality for the period 2010-2015 .
In 2019, UN Women Office in Serbia will further engage in gender mainstreaming of EU assistance and national policies and programmes, as a part of the on-going cooperation with the Government. Also, it will continue to work on gender responsive budgeting through the enhanced support to the Ministry of Finance to implement the Annual Plan for GRB in line with the Law on Budget System; will support line ministries to conduct gender analysis in their respective sectors, and to institutionalize capacity development of civil servants on gender responsive budgeting. The efforts will be invested in ensuring budget information system can track the expenditures. Nevertheless, UN Women Office will continue the work under the Outcome 4: All women and girls live a life free from all forms of violence, by enabling legislative and policy environment in line with international standards on eliminating violence against women and girls and supporting available, accessible, and quality services to women and girls who experience violence in order to ensure better responses to violence against women and girls.
UN Women is looking for an Intern to support programme activities in Serbia in a variety of fields.

Description of Responsibilities & Learning Objectives
Under the supervision of the Gender Specialist, the intern will be having the opportunity to get engaged on the following assignments:
Supporting research on different topics in the field of gender equality that would support the work of UN Women and its partners;
Collecting data and other statistics on relevance for UN Women programming and drafting briefs, overviews and reports in specific areas;
The working hours of the intern will be flexible and mutually agreed upon with the UN Women Belgrade office.
The internship programme offers unique learning opportunities for interns, exposing them to the work of the United Nations at country level, and enriching their educational experience through practical work in an international organization, with a focus on gender equality.

Interns are not financially remunerated by UN Women.

Selected applicants must provide the internship application, two letters of recommendation, proof of health insurance and school enrollment, passport, and visa (if applicable).
In addition to the above listed documentation, the successful candidate will be asked to provide, prior to commencing work, proof of medical insurance valid for Serbia. Applications not in accordance with the mandatory requirements will NOT be considered.
UN Women will only be able to respond to those applications in which there is further interest.
UN Women Internship Policy:
1) Applicants to the United Nations internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
(a) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent);
(c) Have graduated with a university degree (as (b) above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year.
2) UN Women internship programme does not provide a salary or remuneration for the internship;
3) All the expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern, sponsoring Government or institution;
4) UN Women accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
5) The intern is responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed;
6) Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UN WOMEN during the period of the internship or for six months immediately following the expiration date of internship;
7) The intern must provide proof of enrollment in a health insurance plan, proof of school enrollment, a scanned copy of his/her passport, two letters of recommendation, and application.
