Antecedentes

The purose of this internship is to offer an outstanding student the opportunity to acquire direct exposure to the UN's work, as well as to assist the Common Service team with the execution of various construction, refurbishement and maintenance works at the UN House and UN Annex.  It is designed to compliment technical and theoretical studies with practical experience in various aspects of Quantity Surveying or Building Science.

The work will involve measurement of executed construction works and valuating claims made by contactors to ensure that the projects are carried out in a cost-effective manner.  The Intern will also assist in the production of Bill of Quantities and material schedules for ongoing projects and other tasks as needed.

 

Deberes y responsabilidades

Under the direct supervison of the Common Premises Engineer the intern will undertake the following tasks:

  • Assist in the measurement of executed refurbishment, maintenance and construction works and valuate the Contractor's claims.
  • Assist in carrying out site inspections and site reports.
  • Assist with carrying out weekly building maintenance checks and preparation of reports.
  • Assist in recording variations and costs of ongoing projects.
  • Assist in producting bills of quantities and material schedules.
  • Assist in any other project related tasks as requested.

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

Eligibility:

Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

(a)    Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);

(b)    Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent)

(c)    Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above and, if selected, must start the internship withn one-year of graduation.

Education requirements:

  • Candidates must have graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Building Science or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Experience in preparation of Bill of Quantities and material schedules.
  • Computer proficiency in Auto CAD and all MS offfice; Excel, Word, PowerPoint.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in oral and written English

Conditioins:

  • Interns are considered gratis personnel.  They are not staff members.
  • Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP.  The costs associated must be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its studens; or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his or her arrangements for travel, accomodation, visa etc.

  • The intern must provide proof of enrollment in health insurance plan.
