Antecedentes

The Resident Coordinator system encompasses all organizations of the United Nations that have operational activities in the country, including resident  specialized agencies,  UN funds and programmes, as well as non-resident agencies. As a designated Representative of the UN Secretary-General and leader of the UN Country Team (UNCT), the UN Resident Coordinator (UNRC), in consultation with the UNCT, assumes overall responsibility for coordination of the developmental activities of the UN carried out at country level. This is done in conformity with the objectives and priorities of the host government and in accordance with the mandates and objectives of the various UN organizations.

To gain sufficient knowledge of the United Nations System and Communication work through the work of the UN in Belarus - UN Resident Coordinator’s Office;
To ensure the support to the efficient functioning of the RCO with particular focus on communication activities for the RC, RCO.

 

Deberes y responsabilidades

The Intern will carry out the tasks described below. Particular emphasis will be given to advocating for UN’s work in Belarus in support of the broader UN development agenda, and supporting outreach and communication activities to relevant stakeholders and partners in the UN system.

  • Assistance to the RCO with its daily work related to UN Coordination and Communication:
  • Researching on issues relevant for the United Nations and Belarus, including obtaining information through contact with colleagues at various agencies in the country and outside;
  • Daily monitoring of the media on UN mentioning and relevant news and announcements;
  • Daily monitoring global UN-related social media activity;
  • Assisting in managing the UN website and social media accounts, including but not limited to preparing content for publications, active twitting, live coverage of UN related events in social media, pre-drafting media posts and press releases etc.;
  • Participating in UN-led information campaigns;
  • Assisting in organizing and coordinating joint UN events at the time of the Internship if any;
  • Performing ad hoc short translations of news for social media and dissemination among the UN staff;
  • Other duties as required

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

Education:    

  • Enrolled student of graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • Enrolled student in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or
  • Graduate student within one-year of graduation of any of the above.

Language requirements:

  • Fluency in English (mandatory);
  • Fluency in Russian (Belarusian is an asset).
