Antecedentes

Under the direct guidance of the ICT Associate and overall supervision of the Operations Analyst, the ICT Intern will provide support in execution of ICT services in the CO, provides daily technical support to users of information management tools and technology infrastructure the ICT Intern promotes a client -oriented approach.  As an integral part of the UNDP family, the ICT Intern will also be able to participate in UNDP’s internal development platforms and working sessions and processes across the entire country office. 

 

Deberes y responsabilidades

Support efficient networks administration focusing on achievement of the following    results:

  • Troubleshooting and monitoring of network problems.
  • Response to user needs and questions regarding network access.
  • Maintenance of up-to-date parameters of information for the network clients and electronic mail.
  • Implementation of backup and restoration procedures for local drives. Maintenance of backup logs.
  • Maintenance of measures in place for business continuity and disaster recover processes and procedures including backup and restoration of both server and local storage facilities.
  • Timely LAN Infrastructure and Internet connectivity upgrade to meet UNDP requirements.

Support provision of web management services focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Identification of the opportunities and ways of converting business processes into web-based systems to address the issues of efficiency (office management system, donor profile software, knowledge management systems).
  • maintenance of the CO web site and intranet ensuring that the content is updated and meets the requirements of UNDP.

Provides administrative support focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Provision of assistance in procurement of new equipment for the CO and projects, provision of technical specifications and information on best options in both local and international markets, review of quotations and bids.
  • Maintenance of an up-to-date inventory of the software and hardware.
  • Maintenance of the library of reference materials.
  • Maintenance of the inventory and stock of supplies and spare parts in cooperation with the Procurement Unit.
  • Provision of ICT support to key events
  • Provision of helpdesk support to UNDP users for all ICT and telecommunications related issues
  • Provision of ICT support to UNDP and UN Agencies
  • Effectively contribute to CO cost recovery through service provision to UN Agencies, UNDP projects etc.
  • Any other duties as deemed necessary

Impact of Results:
The assigned duties and responsibilities have an impact on the overall efficiency of the Country Office including improved business results and client services.  Forward-looking ICT management has an impact on the organization of office management, knowledge sharing, and information provision.  Through support to cross-unit office tasks, the INTERN will also contribute to the improvement of the performance of the country office at large.

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

Education:

  • (a) Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher) in the field of Computer Science; OR
  • (b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent in the field of Computer Sciences); OR 
  • (c) Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation; OR
  • (d) Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program in the field of Computer Science, Cisco Certified Network Engineer (CCNE) and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) or Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) and undertake the internship as part of this program;

Experience:

  • No experience required.

Language Requirement:

  • Proficiency in written and spoken English and Siswati.

Conditions of internship:

  • UNDP internship programme provide a monthly stipend when the intern is not supported by any institution or programme.
  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship. 
  • All the expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern, sponsoring government or institutions;
  • The intern must provide proof of enrolment in health insurance plan;
  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
  • Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship;
  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.

  • Letter confirming University enrolment or copy of completed university degree.
