Antecedentes

FAO Coordination Office for the West Bank and Gaza Strip Programme is seeking a candidate to fill the position of Socio-economic and Gender Expert, under the overall supervision of the FAO WBGS Head of Office, technical supervision of the FAO WBGS Head of Programme and direct supervision of the FAO Gaza Field Operations Coordinator.  This position is related to the project “Water Management and Adaptation of Agriculture to climate change in Northern Gaza”, whose main objective is to develop, strengthen and empower low-emission water management for local communities in the Gaza Strip, in order to sustain agriculture production and to increase the resilience of the highly vulnerable population. 

Deberes y responsabilidades

The Socio-economic and Gender Expert will lead the field implementation and day-to-day follow up of socio-economic empowerment and gender mainstreaming field outputs, in addition to assist the design of gender-specific activities, performing socioeconomic analysis of the project and the internal knowledge generation/sharing. Specific results expected include:

i. Ensure full  gender mainstreaming  in the project’s activities following FAO´s gender mainstreaming principles and guidelines and the gender action plan of the project

ii. Establish continued interaction and dialogue with targeted beneficiary communities, farmers and women groups as well as other relevant local actors  to ensure participation and local ownership in the projects objectives and activities with particular focus on socio-economic and gender dimensions of the project; 

iii. Collect, consolidate and analyse related data and information needed to ensure evidence-based design, implementation, and monitoring of the socio-economic and gender mainstreaming activities; 

iv. Conduct a participatory diagnosis of needs/opportunities for valorising women engagement in the agricultural value chain (Act. 1.2.1); will define a community-based strategy and action plan to improve women´s access and use of assets and services related to food production, processing and marketing (Act. 1.2.2) as well as their participation in the WUA´s management and decision making (Act. 2.2.2).

v. Design and assist in the implementation of the field activities aiming at  continued learning, knowledge generation and dissemination throughout the project´s implementation; 

vi. Assist in  the definition and drafting of ToRs, LoAs,  application forms, selection criteria, communication information products, training programs and other related  programmatic actions

vii. Support the preparation for and actively participate in project’s meetings, workshops, focus groups and other field activities as needed. 

viii. Draft, enrich, and review information materials, progress, and terminal reports as required. 

ix. Perform other duties as required.

• Knowledge and understanding of FAO policies and programmes is an asset.

• Demonstrated ability to report and communicate outputs and impact of interventions on both oral and written English and Arabic.

• Demonstrated ability to work in a team, and interpersonal skills.

• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks.

• Extent of familiarity with the geographical region.

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

Education:

Advanced university degree in social studies, economics, agricultural economics, gender studies, developmental studies or related fields

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in conducting analysis, implementing and reporting on socioeconomic development projects/programs with national or international organizations.
  • Working experience with UN agencies/International organizations is desirable.

Language Requirements:

Working knowledge of spoken and written English and Arabic.

Other:

Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (Oracle, MS Word, Excel, etc) and knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages;
