Background:

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls, the empowerment of women, and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Placing women's rights at the centre of all its efforts, UN Women leads and coordinates United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world.

The Communications & Advocacy Section at UN Women Headquarters in New York supports the positioning of women’s empowerment and gender equality as key issues on the international agenda and establishes UN Women’s role as the global authority in this context.

The Communications & Advocacy Section seeks to enlist the services of a Web Editor Consultant to support several key activities during the next three-month period in the lead up to UN Women’s corporate priorities such as the High-Level Political Forum and the UN General Assembly.  The Web Editor is responsible for coordinating, researching, writing and editing content for the UN Women website, ensuring that information about UN Women’s work and related news events are presented in a convincing and comprehensive way on the organization’s main corporate platform for public information.
