The United Nations in Guinea-Bissau supports the country to achieve its national priorities focused on sustainable development, peace and security and human rights. The Resident Coordinator leads the UN Country Team (UNCT) and ensures the support of the UN is fully aligned to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The current UN development assistance framework as agreed with the Government consists of six key priorities:

  1. Democratic Governance, Rule of Law and Human Rights;
  2. Sustainable and Equitable Economic Development.
  3. Social Development (health, education, and social protection);
  4. Nutrition and Food Security.
  5. Inclusion and Empowerment of Vulnerable Groups;
  6. Resilience and Environmental Sustainability.

The Resident Coordinator’s Office in Guinea-Bissau supports the work of the UN Resident Coordinator and coordinates activities of the UN Country Team in its engagement with the Government as defined by the UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF).

The Office core functions are:

  1. RC System Leadership, Leads the UN system image improvement and repositioning of the UN system development pillar to support Guinea-Bissau
  2. Operationalizing the SG’s Prevention Vision
  3. Strategic planning.
  4. Socioeconomic Response to Covid-19
  5. Strategic Financing and Partnerships
  6. Coordination of SDG Implementation
  7. Leaving No One Behind, Human Rights and Gender Equality in the 2030 Agenda
  8. Data, results management and reporting
  9. Communications and advocacy

Operations Department supports the Program in their implementation and makes sure to deliver efficiently?

Deberes y responsabilidades

The purpose of this internship is to provide an opportunity for graduate level degree students, where their educational experience can be enhanced through practical work and they can get familiar with administrative and operations processes. Selected candidate will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Assisting with the financial and budgetary process;
  • Assisting in HR with newcomers and arranging introductory meetings.
  • Preparing a kit of welcoming staff;
  • Maintenance of proper filing system for HR records and documents.
  • Maintenance of proper filing system for Budget and Finance records and documents;
  • Assisting in Procurement and will make sure of the follow up;
  • Participating in the finalization of the different SOPs (administrative and Financial);
  • Organizing the worshops/retreats or any events in consultation with the Operations Advisor;
  • Will take the lead in the office storage classification and labeling of office assets;
  • Assisting with the daily office duties and tasks;
  • Other tasks of similar nature upon request.


  • Excellent communication skills (oral and writing) in French and English and Portugues is an asset ?
  • Excellent inter-personal skills.
  • Demonstrates keen interest in the work of the UN.
  • Demonstrating/safeguarding professionalism, ethics and integrity.
  • Teamwork.
  • Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

Applicants to the internship Operations must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a university graduate degree (master’s level or equivalent);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
  • Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.
  • Fluent in French and Portuguese. Knowledge of English is desirable.
  • Must be able to work and live in Guinea-Bissau.

Work Experience and Desired Skillset:

  • Experience in advocacy and social media outreach desirable.
  • Experience with Administrative and Finance is desirable.
  • Experience with data management desirable.
  • Experience with Procurement issues is desirable.
  • Must be able to work in an environment with colleagues of diverse cultural background.
  • Must be able to work independently, be well-organized; able to multitask, balance multiple responsibilities, and work to deadline.


  • UNDP internship plan does not provide a salary or remuneration for the internship, but a stipend will be provided;
  • All the expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern, sponsoring Government or institution.
  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship.
  • The intern must provide proof of enrolment in health insurance plan.
  • The intern is responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed.
  • Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship.
  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.
