 INTERNSHIP OFFICE BACKGROUND:

The Office of Communications at UNDP in Rwanda is at the forefront of advancing online communications and outreach within the organization and is seeking a graduate student with an interest in global issues and social media to assist in building our outreach efforts. This post will give the intern the opportunity to assist in developing digital strategies for campaign projects that raise awareness for and engage people in UNDP Rwanda ’s efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. This internship includes networking with UNDP’s online community, researching and implementing digital services for campaigning and project management of multimedia content and engagement tools.

Under the supervision of the Communications Analyst, the intern will:

  • Support the daily management of the Country Office’s social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, etc.)
  • Writing engaging posts and ensuring regular updates on social media and support with production of other content for social media
  • Personal communications with fans and followers
  • Keeping up to date on new social media tools, best practice and how other organizations and companies are using them in order to identify new campaigning opportunities,
  • Analyzing social media analytics together with the communications team to support the expansion of Rwanda’s reach over social media in the region and globally
  • Contribute to the development of communications tools such as brochures, infographics, factsheets, multi-media assets etc.
  • Support research on specific themes relating to UNDP’s mandate and develop social media campaigns basing on those themes
  • Support the organization and preparation of meetings and events planned by UNDP Rwanda
  • Contribute and ensure the visibility of events, campaigns and key activities planned by UNDP Rwanda Country Office (drafting articles, podcasts, photos, etc.).
  • Support with the production of multimedia content

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft tools (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent writing and research skills.

  • Knowledge on online campaigns and/or marketing strategies.
  • Familiarity with adobe photoshop, illustrator, in-design and other graphic design production tools is an asset

Education:

Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements:

  • currently in the final year of a bachelor’s degree; or
  • currently enrolled in a master’s degree; or
  • have graduated no longer than 1 year ago from a master’s degree or equivalent studies.

Field of study: Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or other similar subject at the university level.

Required Skills and Experience

IT skills:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft tools (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, In-Design and other graphic design production tools is an asset.

Language skills:

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required.
  • Kinyarwanda and French an asset
  • Knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage.

 INTERNSHIP CONDITIONS

  • UNDP internships receive stipend in line with UNDP internship Policy
  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship.
  • Interns are responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed.
  • Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship;
  • Interns must provide proof of enrolment in health insurance plan;
  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity;
  • Interns are expected to work full time, but flexibility is allowed for education programmes;
  • Interns need to obtain financing for subsistence and make own arrangements for internship, travel, VISA, accommodation, etc.
