Background

Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, and direct supervision of the of Head of Transport Unit, the Driver is responsible for providing reliable and safe driving services while demonstrating a high degree of discretion, integrity and sense of responsibility, a good knowledge of protocol and safety issues. The Driver must also demonstrate a client-centered approach, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different nationalities and cultures. At the request of the supervisor, the Driver may also be required to work with the operations and programme staff of the office, consultants, experts, United Nations staff on mission, and provide assistance to UNDP operations. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provision of reliable and safe driving services: Driving office vehicles for the transport of transport of UNDP Senior Management team and other high-ranking officials and visitors and meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport including visa and customs formalities arrangements when required
  2. Proper use of vehicle: Accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports; ensures timely annual vehicle inspection
  3. Day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle: Timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, gas/fuel consumption, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc
  4. Availability of all the required documents/supplies : Vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, pep kits, radio and communication equipment and necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle
  5. Applicable rules and regulations: Ensure that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents
  6. SafetySafeguarding of both vehicles and passengers through timely rigorous monitoring of security measures put in place and ensuring MOSS compliance in close collaboration with immediate supervisor and UNDSS

Required Skills and Experience

1. Two (2) years’ work experience as a driver; 

2.  Knowledge of driving rules and regulations 

3. Skills in minor vehicle repair.

4. UN experience in driving & administrative process

5. Fluency in the language of the duty station (English) & local language
