Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Law reform more broadly, and the repeal or revision of discriminatory laws specifically, are fundamental to the achievement of gender equality and a requirement for realizing the transformative Goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Yet, progress in eliminating discriminatory laws has been uneven. UN Women, with other partners, has developed “A multi stakeholder strategy for accelerated action as a roadmap for the elimination of laws that discriminate against women and girls: Equality in Law for Women and Girls by 2030”. In line with the above, UN Women Uganda Country Office undertook a comprehensive legislative analysis from a gender perspective to provide an in-depth understanding of the current legal framework and the existence of gaps and discriminatory provisions in Uganda, with the long-term vision of advocating for law reform to enact new laws or repeal or revise discriminatory legislation. UN Women requests the services of a national consultant to edit the report on the Analysis of Uganda’s Gender Equality and Policy Landscape and Policy Brief in line with the scope of work and deliverables outlined below.
