Background

The Ending Violence against Women (EVAW) section is part of the Policy, Programme, and Intergovernmental Division at UN Women Headquarters in New York. The section is responsible for several functions including policy and technical advice to regional and country offices on EVAW, supporting the normative work on EVAW at the global level and developing and managing global level programmes. 

Under the overall guidance and supervision of the EVAW Policy Specialist on Multi-Sectoral Services and, in close collaboration with the Chief Technical Advisor of the EVAW Spotlight Initiative, the EVAW section is seeking the services of a consultant to provide administrative and procurement backstopping to the EVAW Section programmes of work, including the Spotlight Initiative, from 11 June 2024 – 10 February 2025. The EVAW Section Finance Associate will be the point of contact on this contract and payment issues related to this consultancy.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide general administrative support to the organization of EVAW section meetings, workshops, webinars, and campaigns.
  • Provide support to procurement needs as they relate to the EVAW section’s programmes, including the Spotlight Initiative.
  • Provide support to recruitment needs as they relate to the EVAW programmes of work, including the Spotlight Initiative, and keep track of the status of consultants in the EVAW section.
  • Ensure UN Women personnel in the EVAW section, including the Spotlight Initiative, are kept up to date on new corporate guidance in programme and project management.

Consultant’s Workplace and Official Travel

This is an office-based consultancy. The consultant will not be required to travel during this consultancy.

FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES: 

  • Good knowledge of UN/UN Women procurement, travel, administrative and staff rules and regulations;
  • Good knowledge of the UNDP system operational functionalities, e.g., Quantum;
  • Ability to administer administrative processes and procurement transactions, and proven ability to promptly learn and comply with administrative rules and regulations;
  • Ability to multi-task, address competing priorities and effectively handle logistical details;

Required Skills and Experience

Education and Certification:

  • Completion of secondary education required.
  • Undergraduate degree in finance, accounting, business or public administration, or a related field.

Experience:

  • A minimum of two years’ continuous experience in administrative management, and procurement functions;
  • Experience of working in projects in the field of gender equality and women’s empowerment, particularly ending violence against women and girls;
  • Previous work experience with the UN; knowledge of the UN Women mandate, rules, and procedures a distinct advantage;
  • Experience in human resources recruitment and making travel arrangements; 
  • Experience in handling of web-based management systems, including ERP system;
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English required.
  • Knowledge of any other UN official language is an asset.
