Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

Unit/Project Background

The work of UN Women in Moldova is guided by its new Country Strategic Note 2023-2027, aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for Moldova (2023-2027), UN Women Global Strategic Plan, National Programs and Strategies and aims to contribute to the gender-responsive implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Strategic Note focuses on four main areas: 1) Ending Violence against Women; 2) Women’s Leadership and Governance; 3) Women’s Economic empowerment and 4) Humanitarian and Peace development nexus and UN Coordination on Gender equality.

The announced internship position comes as a measure to enable people belonging to groups vulnerable to discrimination to get the necessary skills to further defend and promote their own rights, and to contribute to UN Women work, specifically under the area of Humanitarian Response, Ending Violence against Women. Under the guidance and direct supervision of the UN Women Project Coordinator, the intern is supposed to assist on a part-time basis in daily implementation of the tasks, presented below.

The intern shall work up to 45 days within the period mentioned above, up to 16 hours per week, with flexible arrangements.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide logistical support in organizing events, including by preparing and distributing event invitations and receiving event confirmations, etc;
  • Catalogue, gather and systematize various information within the area, including by using Excel and other relevant tools;
  • Provide assistance with communication with partners (developing invitations and keep tracking confirmations);
  • Support communication actions under the area (prepare posts for social media etc), including design of knowledge products;
  • Provide assistance with translations of texts (Ro-Ru/Ru-Ro). English is an asset;
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisors.

Functional Competencies:

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • University studies in one of the following disciplines: law, human rights, sociology, gender studies, public relations, development studies and/or other relevant subjects is required.
  • Meet one of the following:
  1. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  2. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
  3. Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a two-year period of graduation; or
  4. Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program which is part of a degree programme and undertake the internship as part of the program requirements.

Language:

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required;
  • Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.

Renumeration:

Interns who are not in receipt of financial support from other sources such as universities or other institutions will receive a stipend from UN Women to partially subsidize their basic living costs for the duration of the internship.
