Background

In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women: the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates of four parts of the UN system working on all aspects of gender equality and empowerment of women (GE/EW).  UN Women supports the achievement of UN system-wide goals on gender equality and the empowerment of women.  

UN Women’s mandate builds on inter-governmental agreements articulated in the Beijing Platform for Action (PFA), the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), the Millennium Declaration, and relevant Security Council resolutions.

UN Women’s efforts in Maghreb respond to national priorities and opportunities for advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment. UN Women offers technical expertise, programming support and financial assistance to governments, NGOs and UN Country Teams (UNCT) on efforts related to women’s economic empowerment, ending violence against women and girls, women’s leadership in political and civic areas, and incorporating gender equality perspectives in national planning and budgeting,Increase women’s leadership in peace, security and humanitarian action; – including in the context of efforts to address HIV and AIDs

UN Women Programme presence in Tunisia is looking for a Communication Associate, to be based in Tunis.

In order to fulfill the growing demands on communication aspects, particurly in the area of Women, peace& security  The Communications and Reporting Associate works in close collaboration with the operations, programmes and projects’ staff in  Tunisia office and the MCO office based in Rabat( Morocco) , as required for resolving complex communications-related issues and exchange of information ensuring successful implementation of UN Women communication strategy and reporting obligations.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

II. Functions / Key Results Expected

  • Planning and Implementation of internal and external strategies for communications and outreach
  • Conduct of communications needs assessments for  Country Office (CO) in coordination with MCO Maghreb (projects, country programme and corporate change initiatives, etc)
  • Analysis of requirements and synthesis of proposals for elaboration of the CO communications and outreach strategy based on the corporate communications strategy.
  • Development/production of communication and advocacy instruments and materials for marketing and awareness-raising campaigns, including briefing materials and press releases in coordination with the supervisor.
  • Synthesis of proposals for project formulations to integrate advocacy and communication strategies into all aspects of UN Women’s strategy.
  • Effective implementation of the CO publications strategy and plan.

Management of some CO publication activities, such as drafting articles, content management, norms for publishing, design, maintenance of regular contact with printers and other suppliers to ensure production and publications dissemination

  1. Support to the development of programmes:
  • Promotion and dissemination of corporate advocacy materials and publications.
  • Promotion and maintenance of public information campaigns on UN Women activities, results of SDGs.
  • Preparation and dissemination of newsletter to donors, donor reports, civic education and community awareness,  where appropriate, to support projects
  • Timely and effective responses to inquiries for public information materials.
  1.  Contribution  to the maintenance of the UN Women MCO web site, twitter, CO web-based knowledge management system:
  • Preparation of the content for the web sites to ensure consistency of the materials.
  1. Facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing:
  • Identification and synthesis of best practices and lessons learned directly linked to programme country goals and activities.
  • Contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice including corporate communications repositories.
  • Professional growth through active learning.
  1. Support to the preparation of progress and final reports of various projects and programs:
    • Developing and following up on a reporting plan of  the  women,  peace & security and the Tunisia program
    • Mobilizing programmes staff to provide all data requested for reports preparation
    • Preparation and submission of draft progress and final reports for finalisation by the Programme Management Specialist.
    • Provide support to the Programme Manager in preparation of the UN women annual report
    • Support to the preparation of progress and final reports of various projects and programs:
    • Developing and following up on a reporting plan of  the  women,  peace & security and the Tunisia program
    • Mobilizing programmes staff to provide all data requested for reports preparation
    • Preparation and submission of draft progress and final reports for finalisation by the Programme Management Specialist.
  • Provide support to the Programme Manager in preparation of the UN women annual report

Required Skills and Experience

  • Education: Master's degree in media relations, journalism, publishing or equivalent.
  • Experience: At least 6 years of relevant experience at the national or international level in public relations, communications or advocacy. Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages, good knowledge and experience in handling of web-based management systems.

Language Requirements: Fluency in French, English, and Arabic.
