Background

UN Women is the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. In 2012, UN Women has extended its work to include the Arab Region through UN Women’s Regional Office for Arab States (ROAS). UN Women is active six impact areas: political participation, economic empowerment, gender-based violence, gender-responsive budgeting, women in peace and security and HIV. 

Service Overview: 

UN Women Regional Office for Arab States in Cairo requires a communications intern to support in communications and advocacy aspects for the office. 

The Objectives of the Assignment:

Under the overall supervision and directly reporting to UN Women Communications team, the candidate is expected to:

  • Support the production and edition of relevant communication products, including: impact stories for publication in the website, thematic/geographic factsheets, maps, brochures, postcards, videos or other, as needed;
  • Coordinate and manage the UN Women youth network and initiatives;
  • Support in Planning and preparation of social innovation activities focusing on behavioral change projects;
  • Assist with the coordination and logistical preparation for UN multi-agency events
  • Liaise with UN Women partners and media channels;
  • Support in planning and development of campaigns and coordination of events and meetings;
  • Support in updating UN Women website and social media account;
  • Assist in report launches and media inquiries, including media outreach. 

Duties and Responsibilities

The intern is required to develop the following products:   

  • Draft the content of UN Women required publications in coordination with UN Women communications team and according to UN Women branding guidelines;
  • Update the content of UN Women regional website and social media account;
  • Draft monitoring reports of UN Women media coverage;
  • Update media list;
  • Other assignments required by communications team.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Experience in writing, editing and producing materials for website content;
  • Fluency in English;
  • Background in youth and women peace and security or engagement of men and boys in gender equality;
  • Background and experience in digital media production or graphics design is a plus. 

Applicants should meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or;
  • Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year. 

UN Women Internship Policy:

  • UN Women internship programme does not provide a salary or remuneration for the internship;
  • Interns are not financially remunerated by UN Women;
  • All the expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern, sponsoring Government or institution;
  • UN Women accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
  • The intern is responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed;
  • Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UN WOMEN during the period of the internship;
  • Selected applicants must provide the internship application, two letters of recommendation, proof of health insurance and school enrolment, passport, National ID and visa (if applicable).
