Background

Post Context:
Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Integrated Support Team Leader and , the ICT Support Associate provides ICT services, implements ICT management systems and strategies, provides daily technical support to users of information management tools and technology infrastructure. The ICT Support Associate promotes a client-oriented approach.

The ICT Associate is a technical partner to the entire country office facilitating their effectiveness through optimal use of technology.  With an awareness of office operational plans, business priorities and UNDP ICT policies and strategies, the ICT Associate anticipates and addresses individual and team ICT needs. 

The ICT Support Associate works in close collaboration with the Front Office, Management Support and Business Development, Programme and Operations teams in the CO and UNDP HQ staff for resolving complex ICT-related issues, collaborates with Regional ICT Officers (RIO), Regional Bureau ICT Managers (RBIMs), ICT Managers and other ICT Staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

Ideas & Expertise:

  •  With the Integrated Support Team Leader, coordinates and implements the annual ICT annual plan and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Provides support to the use of Atlas functionality for improved business results and client services;
  • Effective functioning (installation, operation and maintenance) of all UNDP hardware.
  • Installation of commercial and in-house developed software and related upgrades, anti-virus programs on a timely basis.
  • Compliance with corporate ICT technology standards, guidelines and procedures for the CO technology environment.
  • Monitoring and maintenance of all network and hardware equipment to ensure a stable and responsive network environment including trouble-shooting problems
  • Installation and configuration of new equipment and systems and corrective actions in case of failure.
  • Full operation of network utility procedures defining network users and security attributes establishing directories, menus and drive-mappings, configuring network printers and providing user access.
  • Response to user needs and questions regarding network access; assistance to staff in the use of network resources;
  • Installation of corporate, commercial and in-house developed software packages and related upgrades. Technical support to the CO staff in the operation of new corporate and commercial software introduce.;
  • Implementation of backup and restoration procedures for local drives.
  • Maintenance of backup logs. Organization of off-site storage of backups.
  • Virus detection, removal and prevention for all systems in the CO. Updated virus detection and removal software.
  • Assistance in data access, file transfers and conversions.
  • Maintenance of measures in place for business continuity and disaster recover processes and procedures including backup and restoration of both server and local storage facilities;
  • Provision of advice on and assistance in procurement of new ICT equipment for the CO and projects, provision of technical specifications and information on best options in both local and international markets, review of quotations and bids;
  • Maintenance of the inventory and stock of supplies and spare parts in cooperation with the Administration and Procurement Teams;

Partnership engagement:

  •  Networks administration support to other UN agencies as required and preparation of bills for cost recovery for the service provided.
  • Support to the maintenance of the CO websites and Intranet.

Team Collaboration

  • Knowledge management and sharing, information provision;
  • Participation in the organization of training for the CO staff on ICT issues;
  • Arrangements for briefings and demonstrations (of corporate and user-developed systems) and coordination of external training sessions;
  • Maintenance of staff training profiles and coordination/conduct of training specific to users' needs;
  • Synthesis of lessons learned and best practices in ICT;
  • Provision of ICT support to key events

Required Skills and Experience

Education: 

  • Secondary Education. University Degree in Computer Science desirable, but it is not a requirement. Cisco Certified Network Engineer (CCNE) and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) or Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) required. If certification is not available at the time of recruitment, it should be obtained within 6 months.

Experience

  • 6 years of relevant experience or Bachelor’s Degree with  3 years of working experience in network administration and use of hardware/software, telecommunications facilities, knowledge of database packages, experience in web design.

Language Requirements

  • Fluency in English and the national language of the duty station. Knowledge of other UN official languages is desirable.
