Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

The Inter-Governmental Support, Coordination and Strategic Partnership Bureau is responsible for proactively driving the strategic positioning of UN Women so that the size, resources and predictability of its financial resources help the organization achieve its strategic goals. The Bureau's Strategic Partnerships Division focuses on Resource Mobilization and Communication and Advocacy.

Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Director, Resource Mobilization, and the overall direction of the Director of Strategic Partnerships Division, and in collaboration with Division colleagues, the Resource Mobilization Advisor is responsible for the design, development and roll out of a Digital and Public (or Individual Giving) Fundraising Strategy for UN Women, in close collaboration with the Programme Division, Communication and Advocacy Section and IST.

Duties and Responsibilities

Lead the development and implementation of a Digital and Public Giving fundraising strategy for UN Women:

  • Lead the design, roll out and implementation of the UN Women resource mobilization strategy on Digital (Marketing) and Public (or Individual) Giving in close consultation with the Chief of Resource Mobilization,
  • Review and refine the strategy at regular intervals to harness new emerging opportunities, include innovative strategies and ideas;
  • Provide strategic guidance and support to all UN Women office in developing and implementing innovative locally-tailored partnerships and resource mobilization strategies and initiatives related to digital and public / individua giving fundraising, including identifying and providing guidance and support on opportunities for public giving;
  • Lead digital marketing initiatives;
  • Provide recommendations on how to better conduct resource mobilization across the UN Women's system, based on international best practices;
  • Determine the partnerships landscape to ensure optimal win-win partnerships for UN Women in Digital and Public Giving Fundraising. Identify and mobilize key strategic partnerships to enhance impact and influence for UN Women's strategic priorities;
  • Lead the strategic, technical and marketing support for fundraising and engagement in National Committees and field offices.

Provide coordination support to global fundraising related to digital and public giving fundraising:

  • Provide technical and marketing support to digital and public giving fundraising;
  • Lead harmonizing resource mobilization activities globally;
  • Develop, assess, and refine policies and infrastructure for resource mobilization procedures;
  • Coordinate the inter-related efforts of the resource mobilization team to ensure a streamlined and efficient approach to building strategic partnerships for mobilizing financial resources.

Lead Advocacy and Communication initiatives related to Digital and Public Giving Fundraising:

  • Develop, plan, and lead the execution of global advocacy and high-profile outreach events and campaigns for Digital and Public Giving fundraising considering donor specific interests and priorities;
  • Develop products for digital marketing in consultation with the Communication and Advocacy Section;
  • Collaborate with internal partners (media/ communications, outreach/ campaign) on the development and use of effective communications, outreach, branding and other resource mobilization mechanisms and tools to enhance the packaging and marketing of UN Women’s mission, competencies, and goals.

Participate in External Relations and Partnerships Building:

  • Act as a key resource of real-time partner intelligence for UN Women's senior leadership;
  • Maintain effective relationships with counterparts in other UN agencies, funds and programmes to promote and strengthen coordinated funding support for gender equality and women's empowerment.

Manage the team:

  • Lead and manage the performance of the resource mobilization team, contributing to effective team-building and fostering a well-coordinated team approach;
  • Ensure effective management through clear direction- and target-setting. Prepare and implement workplans and performance plans and reviews;
  • Contribute to strengthening the team members' capacities and promote professional growth, learning opportunities and knowledge sharing;
  • Review the team capacities and expertise required to strengthen UN Women's reputation and to build and maintain results-driven partnerships.

Lead Knowledge Generation and Management initiatives on Digital and Public Giving Fundraising:

  • Manage the development, maintenance and sharing of knowledge and intelligence, including political intelligence, to ensure UN Women is informed and positioned to effectively generate and harness opportunities to meet its resource mobilization targets;
  • Organize trainings and workshops on digital and public giving;
  • Strengthen the case for investment in gender equality and women's empowerment by managing the development of high quality information and knowledge materials;
  • Promote and facilitate exchange of information and knowledge between the resource mobilization team and other UN Women offices;
  • Contribute to knowledge networks and communities of practice.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Masters University degree (or equivalent) in international development, public management, public / business administration, international relations, social sciences, or a related field.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in resource mobilization and partnerships development at the managerial level,
  • Previous experience at the management level in a fund fundraising, with a demonstrated track record in resource mobilization on significant portfolios, and proven experience in developing strategic plans and operational guidelines that enhance resources.
  • Familiarity with resource mobilization for gender equality programming preferred;
  • Experience of working in the field with an international organization a strong asset.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English is required;
  • Knowledge of the other UN official working language is an asset.
