Background

UNDP is the UN's global development network, an organization advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help build nations that can withstand crisis, and drive and sustain the kind of growth that improves the quality of life for everyone. UNDP works in nearly 170 countries and territories, helping to achieve the eradication of poverty, and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion. We help countries to develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities and build resilience in order to sustain development results.

In April 2018, UNDP launched an innovative undertaking to validate new forms of partnership and programming with the private sector through which significant financing can be leveraged for achievement of the Strategic Plan 2018-2021 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This initiative embraces ‘start up’ principles and focuses on developing a minimum viable product or servicing offering that can be taken to scale. This initiative is housed within the Executive Office of UNDP and is being implemented in close collaboration with other relevant parts of the organization. The Executive Office is seeking the support of two interns to be part of the start-up team.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key activities of this assignment will include:  

  • Assist in the technical review of UNDP’s portfolio of projects related to engagement with private sector financing to discern potential opportunities for immediate partnership and/or scaling;
  • Assist in the development of a common set of SDG investment impact indicators and adequate reporting frameworks;
  • Support the design of technical presentations; and
  • Support the organization of high level forums and other related multilateral and bilateral activities.

Competencies

  • Excellent oral and written presentation and communication skills;
  • Excellent ability to write executive reports;
  • Works well under pressure and ability to re-prioritize based on evolving project needs;
  • Ability to synthesize data and summarize into presentations for executive management

Required Skills and Experience

Education

  • Student enrolled in a graduate school programme in Business Administration /Management (MBA), Public Administration (MPA), or relevant MA programme.

 

Skills/Experience:

  • Excellent financial data analysis skills
  • Strong initiative and a desire to work hard in a startup environment
  • Self- driven professional looking to contribute towards SDGs
  • Project management experience
  • Experience working in multi-functional teams/projects is a strong asset

Conditions:

  • Any individual hired under these conditions are not staff and therefore, are not covered by UN Staff Regulations and Rules;
  • UNDP internship programme does not provide a salary or remuneration for the internship;
  • All the expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern, sponsoring Government or institution;
  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
  • The intern is responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed;
  • Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship or for six months immediately following the expiration date of internship;
  • The intern must provide proof of enrollment in health insurance plan;
  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity;
  • Only those students who will return to their studies upon completion of their internship assignments are eligible.
