Background

The United Nations Development Program Bangladesh’s (UNDP) upcoming “Partnerships for a Tolerant, Inclusive Bangladesh” (PTIB) project will promote diverse and constructive narratives already present in the country in support of tolerance. UNDP will support a better understanding of the challenges peaceful narratives face, and help Bangladeshis develop platforms and media for disseminating their ideas. UNDP partners with youth groups, interfaith activists, the private sector, multinational companies (including Google, Facebook, and Twitter), government agencies and international donors to maximize the capacity and appeal of local organizations supportive of peaceful development. The Research and Data Assistant will provide support to data collection and research efforts currently run by the Partnerships for a Tolerant and Inclusive Bangladesh Project.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will responsible for:

Support to the Project’s Research and Data Activities:

  • Coordinate with counterparts at the Bangladesh Peace Observatory (BPO) in the design and management of the BPO database and publications, under the supervision of the Project Associate for Research and the Project Manager;
  • Provide input on means and methods of refining the collection and presentation of BPO data, including possible innovative graphic design options to relate information to the public;
  • Support team members to arrange training sessions and workshops for sharing knowledge and improving BPO outreach and capacity, including assistance booking venues, organizing events, and processing invitations;
  • Provide support to editing and refining key research products, including BPO Peace Reports, as required;
  • Coordinate and support the PTIB team to implement additional research and assess findings;
  • Coordinate and monitor workplans and budgets leading to BPO implementation goals;
  • Provide prompt additional administrative support to the project team as required;
  • Maintain records for incoming and outgoing correspondence regarding project activities, especially as regard the BPO and other research partners;
  • Provide support in preparing reports, presentations, workplans and other project inputs;
  • Assist in carrying out research, documentation, codification and analysis if requested;
  • Support the organization of knowledge sharing/learning sessions, as required;
  • Any other job as assigned by the management.

Required Skills and Experience

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Social Science Research or a field requiring extensive understanding of research methodologies and data collection strategies. Other bachelor’s degrees accepted provided the candidate can demonstrate multiple years of relevant experience in data collection and analysis, or related discipline.

Experience and Skills

  • Minimum 2 years relevant experience in data collection, analysis, and the presentation of social science data for development projects; previous experience linking data to project outcomes an asset;
  • Experience with social science data collection for an academic or CSO organization required; experience with UNDP or another UN Agency desirable;
  • Experience with data collection systems required; experience organizing events and seminars an asset;
  • Experience with CSO partners working with UNDP is an asset;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English required.

Price Proposal and Schedule of Payments

 Consultant must send a financial proposal based on a Lump Sum Amount. The total amount quoted shall be all-inclusive and include all costs components required to perform the deliverables identified in the TOR, including professional fee, travel costs, living allowance (if any work is to be done outside the IC´s duty station) and any other applicable cost to be incurred by the IC in completing the assignment. The contract price will fixed output-based price regardless of extension of the herein specified duration. Payments will be done upon completion of the deliverables/outputs and as per below percentages:

Travel;

The duty station for this position will be in Dhaka. All envisaged travel costs must be included in the price put forward in the financial proposal. This includes all travel to join duty station/repatriation travel. In the case of unforeseeable travel, payment of travel costs including tickets, lodging and terminal expenses should be agreed upon, between the respective business unit and Individual Consultant, prior to travel and will be reimbursed.

Evaluation Method and Criteria

Prospective national consultants will be evaluated based on a cumulative analysis:

The award of the contract should be made to the proposed consultant whose offer has been evaluated and determined as:

a) responsive/compliant/acceptable, and

b) Having received the highest score out of a pre-determined set of weighted technical and financial criteria specific to the solicitation.

Financial score shall be computed as a ratio of the proposal being evaluated and the lowest priced proposal received by UNDP for the assignment.
