Strategic Partnerships

At the regional office, the Strategic Partnerships Specialist is in charge of building partnerships with traditional donors as well as private sector entities, non-profit organizations and the media. In addition, the Strategic Partnerships Specialist supports country offices with their private sector engagement efforts and helps build their resource mobilization capacity. The Strategic Partnerships Specialist is head of the Strategic Partnerships, Communications and Advocacy team and will be the consultant’s supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities

Scope of Work

The purpose of the consultancy is to assist the Strategic Partnerships Specialist in developing and managing UN Women’s relationships with donors and strategic partnerships in the region, providing resource mobilization support to the regional office and (multi-)country offices in Asia and the Pacific and supporting the overall execution of the resource mobilization strategy.

In light of this, the consultant will perform the following tasks:

  • Identify and research donor priority areas;
  • Identify possible partnership opportunities and prepare briefing notes in support of engagement activities;
  • Support the development of project proposals and the coordination between involved parties;
  • Put together country profiles and donor outreach materials;
  • Manage and update donor and partnership databases;
  • Analyze UN Women’s funding trends in the Asia-Pacific region;
  • Draft presentations, meeting minutes and other relevant documents.

Deliverables/Output

  • 10 Country profiles - Target Due Dates: 28 September 2018;
  • Prospecting list – regional overview of all donors - Target Due Dates: 26 October 2018;
  • RM and Strategic Partnership tools for country offices including concept note and presentation templates and a process flow chart - Target Due Dates: 30 November 2018;
  • Research report on donor priority areas and possible partnership opportunities - Target Due Dates: 21 December 2018;
  • Two-page donor outreach document – regional overview - Target Due Dates: 25 January 2019;
  • 5 Briefing Notes - Target Due Dates: 22 February 2019;
  • Funding trend analysis and report - Target Due Dates: 15 March 2019;
  • Review and Approval Required - Strategic Partnerships Specialist.

Required Skills and Experience

Requirements and Qualifications

Education:

  • The consultant must have a Master’s degree or equivalent in Business Administration, Public Administration, International Relations, Economics or other related field.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment is essential;
  • Good IT skills are required;
  • Experience working with civil society organizations, international institutions and donors is desirable;
  • The consultant must have strong analytical skills;
  • Experience in researches and data collection and database (basic) development;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment is essential;
  • The consultant must have a strong sense of responsibility, a flexible and proactive mindset, and the ability to work independently;
  • Experience with the UN system is an asset.

Language:

  • Excellent communications skills (written and oral) in English are required. Working knowledge of another UN language is desirable.

Institutional Arrangement

The consultant will work under the supervision of the Strategic Partnerships Specialist. UN Women will provide the consultant with a computer to conduct the assignment. In the event that the consultant needs to travel during the consultancy for assignment-related purposes, UN Women will bear the costs of requested travel expenses.

Evaluation

The evaluation will be based on the combination of the weighted technical and financial scores (80 per cent technical and 20 per cent financial). The technical evaluation includes the knowledge/experiences in gender equality and women’s empowerment, experience working with civil society organizations, and/or international institutions evaluation methods include desk review and/or interview.
