Background

The Capacity for Disaster Reduction Initiative (CADRI) is a global partnership composed of 16 UN and non-UN organizations: FAO, OCHA, UNDP, UNICEF, WFP, WHO, GNDR, IFRC, IOM, OECD, UNESCO, UNFPA, UNITAR, UNOPS, WMO, and WB/GFDRR. CADRI draws upon the diversity of expertise of its members to offers a unique combination of knowledge, experience and resources to support countries implement the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.

The CADRI Partnership works towards strengthening countries’ capacities to prevent, manage and recover from the impact of disasters. The objective of the CADRI Partnership is to support the identification of critical capacity gaps at country level in view of prevailing risks and the articulation of coherent UN System and other stakeholder’s interventions to address those capacity gaps.

The CADRI Partnership proposes a range of capacity development services including a methodology for assessing national capacities in DRR, the facilitation of multi-stakeholders’ engagement to develop national plans and strategies for DRR, the provision of technical assistance to implement selected capacity development activities and the delivery of training modules. The CADRI capacity development approach has been adapted and applied in 30 countries. In support of the ambition of the Sendai Framework and the Sustainable Development Goals, the Partnership is scaling up its support to respond to increasing country demands.

Effectively communicating CADRI’s offer of services and achievements internally and externally to client countries and partners is a pre-condition to expand CADRI offer of services and geographical coverage. The CADRI Partnership has developed a communication strategy with two main objectives:

  • Highlight the unique strengths of the CADRI partnership as a “partner of choice” for governments and partners to deliver on Sendai and the SDGs at country level;
  • Communicate CADRI offer of services at global, regional and country level.

In support of the implementation of the CADRI Communication Strategy, the CADRI Partnership needs to regularly updates its communication and knowledge products, such as:

  • Highlights of CADRI achievements in English (video / article / blogs)
  • Website in English
  • Quarterly CADRI Information Bulletin
  • Country cases studies and country profiles

Duties and Responsibilities

The CADRI inter-agency Partnership seeks to recruit an intern to join the CADRI team to support the implementation of the CADRI Communication Strategy with a special focus on the development, design and layout of CADRI communications and knowledge products.

The intern will be part of the CADRI team in Geneva. S/he will work under the direct supervision of the CADRI Coordinator and in close collaboration with CADRI communication adviser and CADRI agencies communication offices.

The intern will perform the following duties:

  • Development of content for various media (website, social media, Bulletin)
  • Design / layout of various CADRI communications products
  • Design and editing of video (interviews, country work)
  • Design and updating of the CADRI website working closely with the website maintenance company:
    • Update current event pages
    • Interactive and appealing web design Design headers
    • Design interactive maps

  • Knowledge and experience using the Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign; Bridge, Acrobat, Illustrator, Flash, Avid, Final Cut Pro and other graphic design software;
  • Knowledge of Word Press;
  • Knowledge of MS Office

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Enrolled in a master’s programme or equivalent in the area of Communication with a specialization in Graphic Design, or related field.

Language:   

  • Proficiency in English
  • Fluency in French, Spanish or Arabic is an advantage.

Conditions of the internship:

  • Interns are not considered staff members of UNDP and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity;
  • Interns are not entitled to financial support (salary or any other compensation) from UNDP;
  • Interns are not covered by UNDP for medical, health or life insurance and have to have their own international medical and life insurance;
  • The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UNDP but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship. Candidates are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed, to any post for a period of three months following the end of the internship;
  • The normal duration of an internship is from six weeks to 6 months (which is the maximum duration);
  • The intern needs to be enrolled as a graduate or final year Bachelor’s student throughout the duration of the internship or be within one year of graduation from a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. programme;
  • The intern will be evaluated at the end of the contract and due recognition of work will be issued in writing;
