Background

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) works in more than 170 countries and territories, helping to achieve the eradication of poverty and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion. We help countries develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities and build resilience in order to sustain development results.

UNDP’s Nordic Representation Office (NRO) is located in Copenhagen with satellite offices in Norway and Sweden. It serves as a liaison and communication office, which works to share knowledge and raise awareness about UNDP’s mandate, work and results. NRO works both as a liaison office between UNDP’s headquarter in New York and the Nordic member states, and as a communication office, which focuses on reaching the public through the media, public events, presentations, field trips and cooperation with Nordic stakeholders, including civil society, private sector, and schools and research institutions. 

This position is placed within UNDP Nordic’s office in Stockholm Sweden. UNDP in Sweden works to strengthen the partnership between Sweden and UNDP and increase knowledge of the work of the UN and UNDP as well as global development, including the Global Goals for Sustainable Development. UNDP has a longstanding communications project in partnership Sida with a focus on communications activities in Sweden.

Duties and Responsibilities

The consultant must be self-motivated, with the capacity to take initiatives and be results and solutions oriented. He/she must have a good sense of self-organisation, attention to detail and flexibility. With excellent communications skills, he/she should be able to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

The consultant will perform the following tasks under the direct supervision of the UNDP Sweden Representative:

Provide operational and administrative support to a communications project funded by Sida to increase awareness and knowledge of multilateral development cooperation and international development, including the Global Goals for sustainable development. Specific duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide operational support to project officers and strategic partners, hereunder arranging travel, venues, facilities and logistics necessary to carry out planned activities and events.
  • Support the project with procurement of goods and services necessary to enable the strategic digital communications plan and execution of planned activities and events.
  • Support and facilitate contract management by NRO’s Nordic office, hereunder contract initiations with vendors, contract amendments, purchase order agreements, monitoring and performing risk assessments. 
  • Facilitate financial transactions under the programme budget, hereunder salary payments, invoice payments, VAT registration, travel subsistence payments and general expense reimbursements.
  • Facilitate financial planning and oversight of the programme budget by NRO’s Nordic office, hereunder provide expense reports, projections, activity budgets and annual reporting.
  • Respond to ad-hoc requests for additional support in the above-indicates areas.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • University degree in Political Sciences, International Relations, Communications, Event Management or related field;

Experience:

  • Relevant experience to the above listed scope of work and skills is required;
  • Knowledge of the UN and international development is required;
  • Knowledge or experience of corporate management functions within strategy, planning, reporting, accounting, procurement, communications, marketing and stakeholder relations is required; 
  • Knowledge or experience in risk management and due diligence desired;
  • Knowledge or experience in project management desired;
  • Knowledge or experience of the Global Goals for sustainable development is desired.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in oral and written English and Swedish is required.
  • Working knowledge of other UN official languages is an advantage.

Other:
