Background

The Office of Financial Resources Management (OFRM), Bureau for Management Services (BMS), is a dynamic and results driven office of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). OFRM contributes to the global development agenda of UNDP by being a strong partner with other part of UNDP, promoting clear and strong financial reporting and analysis to ensure accountability and compliance with UNDP's financial and administrative regulatory framework.

OFRM is responsible for the global financial operations of UNDP. The organization receives income, from variety of sources of funds, in excess of US$ 5 billion per annum. OFRM's activities involve financial management and funding operations of office located in 166 countries which include financial analysis, reporting, and financial risk management.  The Finance Intern shall report to a Senior Manager within the Financial Business Partnering team.

Duties and Responsibilities

The intern shall perform the following duties:
Support to Advisory Services

  • Assist the Finance Business Partner team to provide support to Country offices, Regional Bureau Bureaus HQs, Regional Centres and Corporate HQ units: 
  • On financial resource management with emphasis on risk and material areas, e.g.cost-sharing and cost-sharing deficits, trust fund budgets and trust fund deficits,…
  • Provides support to Country offices, Regional Bureau Bureaus HQs, Regional Centres and Corporate HQ units prior to periodic closing on recording, reconciliation/certification and quality of data to promote timeliness and accuracy of data input, helping Bureaux to exercise their oversight.
  • Support in enhancing the FBA sharepoint to more user friendly reference points to the clients

Resource monitoring and oversight (Ensures monitoring and oversight of resource management)

  • Monitors resource utilization against approved workplan/initiatives to confirm alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Monitors and provides feedback to clients on data quality, dashboards indicator, compliance and exceptions. 
  • Monitor and support Bureaux to help improve their and their country offices in the financial closure of Development projects and Trust funds.
  • Assist in building up automated monitoring tools such as dashboards, budget monitoring, balance sheet certification/validation systems  

Provides financial analysis to Rbx/COs/HQ units.

  • Analyzes complex General Ledger (GL) information for various purposes and advises Rbx/COs/HQ units accordingly.
  • Carries out the age analysis of the assets and liabilities and supports the Bureaux in the oversight of reconciliations and information requirements. 
  • Interprets, when risks or amounts are material, CDRs and other ATLAS performance reports for clients.
  • Assist in building up financial review decks  

Performs other duties as instructed by the Manager.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Candidacy for an advanced degree in Finance, Business Administration or any other related discipline.  The intern must be currently enrolled in an advanced university degree (Master’s degree).

Experience:

  • Entry level knowledge in financial data extraction and analysis;
  • Strong MS Office package skills.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English;
  • Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.

Conditions of the Internship:

  • Interns are considered gratis personnel. They are not staff members;
  • Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP. The costs associated must be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his or her own arrangements for travel, accommodation, visa, etc.;
  • Internship duration can be extended up to six months.
