Background

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) has established field offices in Iraq to facilitate coordination of the humanitarian response in Iraq, including assistance to 3million Iraqis internally displaced since January 2014. Information management is a core component of a comprehensive support strategy for the humanitarian community. The Information Management Unit (IMU) will work to advocate for an environment whereby relevant data (spatial/ GIS, non-spatial tabular, statistical, etc.) can be brought into a structure that supports the efficient management of data and information in the context of the humanitarian response.

Duties and Responsibilities

In order to address humanitarian challenges caused by the conflict in Iraq, OCHA is strengthening its information management capacity. OCHA provides information services to the humanitarian community on the humanitarian situation in Iraq. Information management is a core component of a comprehensive support strategy for the humanitarian community.

 Under the overall supervision of the Head of Information Management Unit, the Information Management Associate will be responsible for the following:

  • Support the Head-of-Office, Information Management Unit and Public Information Unit with local media contact facilitation and reporting.
  • Assist in the preparation of social media products in support of OCHA advocacy.
  • Collect, compile, analyze data and organize the structural record keeping and archival using the different OCHA PI related platforms.
  • Adapt the existing guidelines and templates to Arabic and Kurdish text requirements.
  • Improve and edit art-works, photos, charts and other graphic elements.
  • Assist in establishing and maintain a photo archive.
  • Implement the graphic guidelines in OCHA products;
  • Deliver creative and innovative ideas for print, web and interactive presentations
  • Produce and update information products such as reports, charts and infographics by turning data into graphical products to convey messages and a storyline; develop advocacy materials including posters, presentations and other visual materials.
  • Solid knowledge of MS Office software products is required (especially: MS Access, MS Excel, MS Power-point, MS Word).
  • Knowledge of Graphic Design software is required (Adobe Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and movies and animation would be an added asset.
  • Supporting and participating in analytical work by processing data and information in a suitable format;
  • Any other duties as required by the office.
  • The understanding of indicators and their development
  • Publication development/production, especially drafting text, design of graphic elements and layout
  • Public speaking – able to make presentations in Arabic, Kurdish, English.
  • Knowledge/familiarity with: Spark, Premiere Pro, In-Design, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • University degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in Information Management, Computer Science, or a related field.  Secondary education in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the university degree.

Experience:                                                                                                        

  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience for Bachelor’s degree holders and 6 years for high school graduates at least of progressively responsible experience in Information Management, Information Systems, Geographical Information System or Database Development or related field with the Bachelor’s degree or

Language Requirements:

  • For this post fluency in English, Kurdish and Arabic is required.
