Partnerships & Resource Mobilization, Advocacy and Communications Unit (PRMAC)

This position is based within Partnerships, Resource Mobilization, Communications and Advocacy (PRMAC) Unit for the UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP). At the regional office, PRMAC is in charge of building partnerships with private sector entities as well as bilateral partners, non-profit organisations and the media. PRMAC also provides strategic advice and technical support to both the regional office and country offices in Advocacy and Communications in Asia and the Pacific. The Head of Partnerships and Resource Mobilization manages the PRMAC unit and will be the consultant’s supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities

Scope of Work

Under the supervision of the Head of Partnerships and Resource Mobilization, the Partnerships Development Specialist will provide technical support to the development and management of UN Women’s strategic partnerships and relationships with the private sector, with a particular focus on New Business Development and Innovative Finance, including International Financial Institutions (IFIs). He/she will contribute to the Regional Partnerships and Resource Mobilization strategy, as well as enhance capacity in the Regional Office (RO) and the region’s Country Offices (CO) and Multi-Country Office (MCO) to engage with the private sector.

The Partnerships Development Consultant will perform the following tasks:

  • Works with Country Offices to manage the full cycle of building new partnerships with the private sector (focus on Corporate New Business Development and Innovative Finance, including IFIs): Supports UN Women offices on their one-to-one prospecting and negotiating of new business and innovative finance partnerships. Responsibility for driving a regional pipeline of prospects that convert into six and seven figure US$ partners in priority countries and/or the regional office.
  • Contributes to, and coordinates elements necessary to, build the capacity and skills in new high-value partnership development (Private Sector New Business and Innovative Finance, including IFIs) across UN Women offices in Asia and the Pacific: Contributes to the development of content and materials on how to secure partnerships with corporates via webinars, training sessions etc. Identifies and shares best practices and case studies across the Strategic Partnerships community in Asia and the Pacific.
  • First point of contact for new partnership development (Private Sector New Business and Innovative Finance, including IFIs) across the UN Women network in Asia and the Pacific: Responds to inquiries from Country Offices on new partnership development.
  • Manages risk: Acts as the co-ordinator for the due diligence process for new partnership development (focus on corporate prospects) and liaises with other risk management departments, including communications, to ensure risk through new partnerships is both identified and managed.
  • Develops partnership models, products and materials that support the development of a portfolio of partnerships in Asia and the Pacific: Analyzes New Business practices across all markets with the aim to develop a series of partnership models on Cause Related Partnerships and/or Customer Fundraising and/or Multi-faceted (Shared Value) partnerships and others that can easily be rolled out. Develops propositions for Shared Value partnerships with corporates and coordinates with other key programme units in ROAP and country offices in the region.

Institutional Arrangement

The consultant will work under the direct supervision of the Head of Partnerships and Resource Mobilization. UN Women will provide the consultant with a work laptop and a workstation. In the event that the consultant needs to travel during the consultancy for assignment-related purposes, UN Women will bear the costs of requested travel expenses.

Duration

The duration of the consultancy is 6 months, starting on 12 October 2020 and ending 1 April 2021. Living expenses are to be covered by the consultant.

Duty Station

The consultant will be home-based and working remotely for the UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific if based out of Bangkok. Applicants based in the following cities are encourage to apply: Bangkok, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Seoul and Singapore.

Number of working days: Maximum 15 days per month

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in economics, business management, social sciences, public administration, international relations, communications, or a related field is required.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional work experience in fundraising, marketing, sponsorship, and corporate fundraising;
  • Experience working in or with developing countries is an advantage;
  • Proven experience of identifying, developing and securing a new business pipeline;
  • Experience of working within corporate fundraising and innovate finance (including IFIs) in an international organisation is desirable;
  • Good command of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) are required;
  • Experience with the UN system is an asset.

Language Requirement:

  • Excellent communications skills (written and oral) in English are required. Working knowledge of another UN language is desirable.

Evaluation

The evaluation will be based on the combination of the weighted technical and financial scores (80 per cent technical and 20 per cent financial). The technical evaluation includes the knowledge/experience in gender equality and women’s empowerment, experience working with bilateral partners and the private sector and/or international institutions. Evaluation methods include desk review and/or interview.
